Frostpunk 2 Introduces Mod Support at Launch with New FrostKit Tool
Warsaw, Poland – August 28, 2024 – In an exciting update following this Monday's eye-catching dinosaur-themed teaser, 11 bit studios has announced that Frostpunk 2 will feature full mod support from the day of its release. This significant enhancement is powered by their innovative new tool, FrostKit, set to transform how players engage with the game.
- Release Date: September 20, 2024
- Genre: Strategy, Survival
- Developer: 11 bit studios
- Publisher: 11 bit studios
- Platforms: PC-Steam, Epic Game Store, Microsoft Store
Frostpunk, first released in 2018, captured the imaginations of strategy and survival enthusiasts with its demanding climate-based city-building gameplay. Although the original game was celebrated for its depth, the community has long requested more flexibility in customization. These requests are now answered with Frostpunk 2's move to Unreal Engine, which facilitates a far broader scope for modifications.
Technical Advances with Unreal Engine Szymon Jablonski, the Technical Director of Frostpunk 2, highlighted the advantages of shifting to Unreal Engine: "Thanks to the switch to Unreal Engine, things are totally different now." This transition not only enhances the visual and performance aspects but also expands the modding capabilities significantly.
What FrostKit Offers FrostKit will allow players to create their own maps and scenarios, populating them with custom models. Whether it's crafting a city from an ancient civilization, a cosmic outpost, or a unique new world far removed from Frostpunk's traditional frosty apocalypse, the possibilities are virtually endless. A collaborative effort with mod.io, the new trailer for FrostKit offers a sneak peek at the potential modifications players can implement.

Beta Testing and Community Feedback
Initially available in beta, FrostKit is designed to evolve based on user input. "The beta version of the modding tool will enable creators to access most of its functionalities, although these will be iteratively upgraded based on community feedback," Jablonski adds. The development team is committed to refining the tool, starting with a closed beta involving select members of the modding community.
