You must navigate this post-apocalyptic environment, scavenging for vital supplies and making life-or-death decisions, while uncovering the dark secrets of the past.

I had the chance to preview Permafrost, and it's shaping up to be an intense survival game that offers a truly immersive experience.

Permafrost will provide both single player and co-op play for up to 4 players and is scheduled to launch on Steam early access in 2025 on PC.

Gameplay & Interactions

The world of Permafrost pulls you in with its urgency and harsh conditions. As you navigate through the desolate remnants of civilization, the need to scavenge for resources and craft tools becomes vital to survival. While I didn't explore the full depth of the crafting and building mechanics, creating a small shelter felt satisfying and necessary as I fought to stay warm and alive.

Though it's still early to dive fully into the narrative, the setup is strong enough to make you eager to explore more. The environment is incredibly well-realized, with harsh winters and detailed settings that give a very real sense of survival in a frozen wasteland.

Graphics & Realism

As a Norwegian who's lived through many cold winters, I can say the attention to detail is impressive. The game's portrayal of icy landscapes, the sounds of trudging through snow, and the struggle against the elements all felt very real. It's clear the developers have worked hard to capture the harsh reality of surviving in the cold.
