Frontline Expanded: Squad 44 Broadens the Battlefield With 100-Player Servers and More

NEW WESTMINSTER, Canada – August 15, 2024 — Today, Offworld releases the newest update for their hit WWII-themed FPS, Squad 44: Frontline Expanded. The Frontline game mode, first introduced earlier this summer, has been expanded across all game chapters, now encompassing a total of 20 maps. This update not only deepens the strategic elements necessary for victory but also increases the server capacity from 80 to 100 players.

The Frontline Expanded update introduces new objectives in the Frontline mode, including a document search where players explore various battlefield quadrants to secure crucial files and new search-and-destroy missions targeting weapon caches and vehicles.

In addition to enhancing gameplay, this update significantly expands the game's armored combat. Following June's Reign of Steel update, new tanks have been added to the Armoured game mode. Modifications include overhauled commander observation cupolas to improve usability and situational awareness for tank commanders. The mechanics of Armour-Piercing shells have also been refined to emphasize accuracy and spalling, enhancing the combat experience. Moreover, two new vehicle variants, the Cromwell CS and the AEC Armoured Car Mk3, have been introduced.

Collaborating with Mercury Arts, Offworld continues to push for high-grade visual fidelity and authentic immersion. This update extends the ongoing graphics overhaul, particularly in the historical reworks of St. Mere Eglise and Carentan, aligning them more closely with their real-world counterparts. These maps have seen further refinement in building models and the addition of furniture in open buildings, enriching the sense of a lived-in wartime environment.

Squad 44 remains dedicated to historical accuracy and large-scale battles, demanding high levels of communication, cohesion, and teamwork for success.

Each map is meticulously recreated from archival references, ranging from street-level photographs to aerial images, featuring five main factions with several units from German, American, British, Greek, and French forces. Players can engage with an extensive arsenal of historically accurate weapons and operate over 50 period-correct vehicles, from Jeeps to King Tigers, offering an immersive, authentic battlefield experience.
