Artwork from Abyssus, a brinepunk FPS roguelite featuring co-op deep-sea combat and exploration – Fix Gaming Channel Game of the Week #25

Game of the Week #25: Abyssus – Deep-Sea Discovery and Danger

Posted on October 16, 2025October 31, 2025 By Robelle Veligano

Exploring the Depths

For this week’s spotlight, we plunge beneath the waves into the hauntingly beautiful world of Abyssus — a game that redefines what it means to explore the ocean depths. Developed by DoubleMoose Games and published by TidalWave Interactive, this first-person underwater adventure combines sci-fi, exploration, and a dash of horror to create a journey that’s as mesmerizing as it is menacing.

In Abyssus, players take control of a deep-sea diver sent to investigate a long-forgotten underwater civilization. What begins as a scientific expedition quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival as strange bioluminescent creatures, mechanical relics, and the crushing silence of the ocean close in. It’s a place where light and sound are luxuries, and every dive feels like a gamble between wonder and dread.

A World of Beauty and Isolation

The world of Abyssus is breathtakingly crafted. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the game captures the alien beauty of the deep sea — glowing coral forests, derelict submarines, and colossal ruins shrouded in darkness. Yet, amid this beauty lies danger. The further you descend, the stranger things become, with ancient machinery and distorted lifeforms hinting at a civilization that never should have existed beneath the waves.

Gameplay: A Balancing Act Between Curiosity and Fear

Abyssus isn’t just about survival — it’s about discovery. Players must manage oxygen, pressure, and equipment integrity while piecing together the secrets of the abyss. Every light source you carry matters, every noise might attract attention, and every tunnel could lead to salvation or doom. It’s equal parts strategy, exploration, and psychological tension.

A Soundscape of Suspense

The sound design deserves its own praise. The faint hum of your oxygen tank, the crackle of your radio, and the distant echoes of the unknown all contribute to a sense of immersion few games achieve. The soundtrack balances tranquil curiosity with mounting dread — a perfect accompaniment to a world where silence is often more terrifying than sound.

Why It’s Our Game of the Week

We chose Abyssus because it pushes the boundaries of atmospheric storytelling and visual design. It’s more than just a survival game — it’s a meditation on exploration, solitude, and the vast unknown. If you loved titles like Subnautica or Jusant but crave something darker and more mysterious, this one belongs on your radar.
