Mega Crit’s Early Access sequel is still pulling massive Steam numbers, even as player reaction looks more divided
Slay the Spire 2 is still one of Steam’s biggest games right now, but the story is no longer just about launch hype.
At the time of writing, SteamDB lists Slay the Spire 2 with more than 128,000 players in-game, while also showing a 62.67% SteamDB rating from around 154,000 reviews.
That contrast makes the Early Access sequel worth watching. The player count is still massive, especially for a roguelike deckbuilder, but the rating shows that not everyone is fully on board with the current state of the game.
Developed and published by Mega Crit, Slay the Spire 2 launched into Early Access on Steam on March 5, 2026. The original game helped define the modern roguelike deckbuilder, so expectations for the sequel were always going to be extremely high.
For now, the SteamDB numbers suggest that players are still showing up in huge numbers. The question is whether future updates can turn that attention into stronger long-term sentiment.
