Herobeat Studios Announces Rewilders: The Lost Spring — New Action Roguelite Revealed

Posted on August 18, 2025January 23, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Rewilders: The Lost Spring

Barcelona-based developer Herobeat Studios, the BAFTA-winning team behind Endling: Extinction is Forever, has revealed its next title: Rewilders: The Lost Spring. This is the studio’s second game and the first to be self-published, expanding on their signature emotional storytelling with new gameplay systems and a genre shift into action roguelite territory.

Set in a poisoned world, players take on the role of Abi, a survivor searching for her lost family while working to restore corrupted biomes. Along the way, Abi reawakens the Hântu—local fauna once driven to extinction—who can join battles and expand abilities. Feeding and evolving these companions allows players to craft unique teams and strategies for every run.

The game mixes fast-paced third-person combat with roguelite mechanics, randomized rewards, and metroidvania-inspired traversal tools such as gliders, wall-running, and grappling hooks. Between expeditions, players can grow plants in their skyship base to unlock buffs, strengthen Hântu, and prepare for their next descent into the wild.

While Rewilders isn’t a direct follow-up to Endling, the studio emphasizes that players can expect the same kind of heartfelt storytelling, lush aesthetics, and strong ecological themes. The reveal trailer even features an original theme song with vocals by Julie Elven (known for her work on Horizon Zero Dawn).

Herobeat cites inspirations from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli when creating Rewilders, weaving together themes of family, restoration, and responsibility with creature collection and exploration-driven gameplay. Narrative choices will also push players to decide whether to restore the memory of the world that was—or reshape it into something new.
