Colorful scene from the cozy ocean cleanup indie game Spilled! by Lente

Spilled! Cozy Ocean Cleanup Indie Game by Lente Launches on Steam

Posted on March 27, 2025June 27, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

27 March 2025 — Spilled!, a charming indie game built from the ground up by solo developer Lente, officially launches today on Steam. Developed entirely aboard a boat sailing through Dutch waters, this short and cozy game lets players clean up polluted waters and help the ocean.

The project began in late 2022 and blossomed into a successful Kickstarter campaign in early 2024, raising over €31,600—more than triple its original goal. With a modest price of $5.99 USD (with regional pricing), the game also debuts with a 10% launch discount for the first week. As part of a generous initiative, €0.10 from every sale will be donated to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC).

What Is Spilled!?

Spilled! is a short but highly satisfying eco-themed adventure focused on marine cleanup. From scooping oil to recycling waste and upgrading your boat, the game presents a relaxing and colorful take on environmental care. It’s built to be both soothing and engaging, and it resonated early with players, garnering over 80,000 wishlists following its demo.

Key Gameplay Features

  • Short but Satisfying: Travel through 8 increasingly complex areas. Finish in about an hour, or return anytime for a relaxing cleanup session.
  • Eco-Driven Gameplay: Remove waste and reveal vibrant underwater ecosystems as the environment heals.
  • Boat Upgrades: Expand your boat’s capacity, tank, and speed for more efficient cleanup.
  • Animal Rescue: Encounter and save 16 unique animals as you progress.
  • Varied Challenges: Tackle land and water-based obstacles like plastic pushing, fire extinguishing, oil washing, and magnet fishing.
  • Diverse Biomes: Clean across sandy beaches, snowy zones, rocky outcrops, and grassy waters.

Meet the Developer

Lente, an indie developer based in the Netherlands, brings a deeply personal story to the gaming scene. Living aboard a self-renovated boat, her day-to-day life on the water directly inspired the tone and design of Spilled!. This is her first full commercial release—a passion project that merges lifestyle, creativity, and environmental advocacy into one heartfelt experience.
