A colourful hidden object game built on dreamlike chaos and sly visual tricks
In the land of whimsy, a colourful fantasy world full of castles, unicorns, magical flying whales, rainbows, and a mildly concerning number of cute cats, there’s a beautifully simple concept at work: hiding weird stuff in plain sight. This story takes inspiration from Whisker Wanderlust: Unwritten Chapter, where the imagination knows no bounds.
Enter, then, Whisker Wanderlust: Unwritten Chapter from the aptly named Chinese developer Meow Store Game, a hidden object game full of beautiful, dreamy chaos. It’s a game that delivers cosy gaming in a creatively absurd wrapper, and if you enjoy this side of the genre, we recently highlighted more laid-back picks in Cozy Games Ripe for Discovery. None of the dreamscapes make any cohesive sense, yet they all build a beautiful visual narrative that tells its own story, all of it bursting with colour.

A busy hand-painted fantasy scene packed with slimes, cats, and playful hidden-object details.
For the most part, you’d think that hidden object games could be quite boring. They were popular during the Covid pandemic, mainly through browser platforms, and faded out as new trends such as match-three emerged. But where Whisker Wanderlust: Unwritten Chapter makes an indelible mark is with its illustrative art style and weirdly absurd canvases, where you’ll hunt everything from blushing bunnies to socks or strange blobby goo characters — all of which, I might add, are cunningly hidden in plain sight.
I don’t use the word ‘cunningly’ lightly either. You’ll start asking yourself, fifteen minutes into seeking the remaining 24 socks out of the 50 hidden in the entire background, ‘How on God’s green earth are there still 24 socks?’ You’ll scan every square inch with the focus of a military satellite imagery analyst… and you still won’t find the last two socks.

A dreamy forest area with shrine-like structures, glowing effects, and hidden-object fantasy charm.
Thankfully, the ability to scroll and zoom for a closer look, alongside dotted narrative clues, helps you out — and, as simple as it sounds, it’s also strangely addictive. Developer Meow Store Game has tapped into creating a strangely addictive game that hooks you in from the outset. Great for ‘short’ sessions — if you’ve got a spare hour to locate everything in whatever absurdly wonderful landscape of scarecrows, whales, endless cute cats, fluffy pink clouds, colourful flying fish, and an assortment of bizarre characters that wouldn’t be out of place in a young child’s storybook.

A large-scale fantasy panorama filled with flying ships, whales, castles, and storybook-style detail.
As a hidden object game, Whisker Wanderlust: Unwritten Chapter builds its very own nuanced charm, and it’s all driven by its incredibly colourful, hand-drawn dreamscapes. While it’s not exactly bringing anything remarkably new to the hidden object genre, it’s carving its own stylistic niche through its visual palette, and for that it should be commended.
