Battle of Rebels — Hands-On Impressions

Battle of Rebels — Hands-On Impressions: A $40 Headache, Not a Shooter

Reviewed on PC.Score: 2/10

I played Battle of Rebels yesterday and it’s a disaster: bugs, keys randomly stop working, constant glitches, and I spent more time tweaking than playing. At $39.99 on Steam/Nintendo eShop (and $34.99 on PlayStation), the value isn’t there. The ask feels wild for what’s effectively a 5-level campaign plus tiny 2v2 arenas.

What went wrong (from my test)

  • Stability & input bugs: hard faults, actions stop responding, and intermittent “keys not working.”
  • Ultra-wide pain: no proper 32:9 support on my 49” monitor; HUD stretch/odd behavior meant more time in settings than in-game.
  • Empty multiplayer: the only mode is 2v2 cross-platform arenas; I couldn’t find a live match, so there’s no practical way to “team up.” (Feature list confirms 2v2 only.)

Content vs price

The store pages promise 5 campaign levels and 2v2 multiplayer with vehicles/drones. That’s extremely light for a mid-tier price. Steam lists it at $39.99; Nintendo eShop lists $39.99; PlayStation Store shows $34.99.

Wider reception (it’s not just me)

  • Steam: the page shows “Steam is learning about this game” with 1 user review at the moment—very low engagement.
  • PS5 players: forum posts call it a “clunky, broken mess,” including a report that Level 2 is 90% invisible, making it unfinishable.
  • Press: HackInformer couldn’t recommend it in current state, citing falling through floors, uncompletable missions, and laggy controls.

Verdict

Right now, I can’t recommend Battle of Rebels at any price. At $40 (even $5), the tech issues, lack of ultra-wide support, and empty 2v2 scene make it feel unfinished and not worth your time or money. If you’re curious, wishlist it and wait for major patches and a deep sale.
