Key art for Decastled showing a bright medieval town inside castle walls with enemy forces approaching from a dark forest

Becastled 1.0: city building by day, castle sieges by night

Becastled 1.0: cozy castle sieges now on PC and consoles

Becastled has finally marched out of Early Access and into a full 1.0 launch on PC and consoles. It’s a city-building and siege-defense strategy game where you build your medieval village by day and try to hold the walls when the Moon Beasts attack at night.

I haven’t played the 1.0 build yet, so this is not a review. Think of this as a quick info piece and starter guide based on the official launch material from Mana Potion Studio and Pingle Studio. I’ll come back with full hands-on impressions once I’ve had time to really test it. In the meantime, if you enjoy strategy with a twist, you might also want to read my recent Game of the Week feature on Brew or my coverage of Band of Crusaders expanding to GOG.

What Becastled actually is

Becastled is about rhythm: daytime is for expanding your settlement, gathering resources, and placing buildings; nighttime is for scrambling to the battlements to survive another assault. Over the course of a run you unlock tech upgrades, beef up your walls and towers, and slowly push across the map to destroy enemy towers that keep sending creatures at you.

Becastled

Release: October 23, 2025 (Version 1.0)

Genre: City Building / Siege Defense / Strategy

Developer / Publisher: Mana Potion Studio / Pingle Studio

Platforms: PC — Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch

Quick starter tips

Here are a few simple pointers from the official creator guide to help your first fortress last more than a couple of nights:

  • Choose a good starting cell. Look for terrain that naturally funnels enemies so you need fewer walls in the early game.
  • Watch the seasons. Rivers can freeze in winter, opening new paths for enemies, so don’t rely only on water as your defence.
  • Keep resources balanced. Make sure you have steady Food, Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold, and Sunstone coming in, plus enough storage for them.
  • Use roads and upgrades early. Roads speed up workers, and early tech upgrades often beat simply spamming basic buildings.
  • Mind morale and boss nights. Taverns and decorations keep villagers productive and brave, and destroying an enemy tower means a boss is coming the following night, so prepare before you push.

Once I’ve put real hours into the 1.0 build on PC and console, I’ll be back with a proper review and a deeper strategy breakdown. For the moment, this should give you a clear idea of what Becastled is and how to survive those first few siege horns.
