Band of Crusaders – Dark medieval fantasy promo image with looming figures and red sigils

Band of Crusaders Set to Expand to Gog Platform Following Immense Player Feedback

Posted on October 18, 2024June 24, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Warsaw, Poland, October 17, 2024 – Virtual Alchemy, the team behind the grim and gripping strategy RPG Band of Crusaders, has announced that the game will officially become available on the GOG platform. This move follows an overwhelming wave of positive feedback from players and fans who voiced a desire to see the game beyond its original Steam listing.

A Dark Fantasy Inspired by Myth and History

Since its reveal on Steam, Band of Crusaders has gained strong momentum for its strategic depth and immersive lore. Drawing inspiration from European history and religious mythology, the game offers a bleak, twisted interpretation of medieval warfare, where the supernatural clashes with grounded tactical realism.

Enemy Design: A Tale of Two Horrors

“The process of designing our demon enemies follows two main paths,” explains Art Director Kamil Mickiewicz. “The first is rooted in respecting the source material drawn from the very soil of Europe, along with its flora and fauna. Such pure manifestations of evil often take forms amalgamated from the bodies of fallen humans or animals, further twisted by unexplained mutations and merged with plant elements or shards of the earth itself.”

“The second path draws upon biblical motifs, referring to descriptions of demons or the personifications of the Seven Deadly Sins,” Mickiewicz adds. “This approach strikes a far more metaphorical tone, creating creatures that embody not just grotesque terror but the very essence of humanity and the darker parts of medieval culture.”

Living Landscapes That Breathe Fear

The world design of Band of Crusaders draws from historical inspiration with clear visual cues akin to games like The Witcher. Haunting medieval villages, mist-draped forests, and ruinous fortresses provide more than just scenery—they play into the very systems of survival, combat, and moral decision-making.

From Gamescom to GOG: A Partnership Born From Player Voices

According to Lead Developer Sypnicki, the idea for bringing the game to GOG took root at Gamescom. “Interestingly, what sparked this collaboration was an unexpected moment at Gamescom, where our booths were side by side. It was then that we realized both our teams had heard the same message loud and clear from players: they wanted Band of Crusaders on GOG. It felt like fate was guiding Band of Crusaders toward the GOG platform. Thanks to the players’ enthusiasm, the decision came together swiftly.”

A Commitment to Player Freedom

The move to GOG is more than just a business decision—it’s a reflection of Virtual Alchemy’s commitment to accessibility and player expression. “Players sometimes prefer to have their games on Steam or other platforms, and we want to support this freedom,” says Mickiewicz. “We are among GOG users ourselves and play many titles from different genres, which is why we feel we fully understand this need.”
