Absolum – A Fantasy Roguelite Beat ’Em Up Launching October 2025

GOTW #26: Absolum – Dotemu’s Magical Roguelite Brawler is a Masterpiece of Action

Posted on October 22, 2025October 29, 2025 By Daniel Sarach

A Hand-Drawn Masterclass in Combat and Chaos

Developed by Dotemu, Guard Crush Games, and SupaMonks, Absolum is set to launch on October 9, 2025, exclusively for PC. This hand-drawn fantasy beat ’em up fuses the satisfying rhythm of classic arcade brawlers with the strategic intensity and replayability of a modern roguelite. It’s a daring evolution of the genre that demands precision, patience, and power.

The World of Talamh – Magic, Rebellion, and Ruin

The story unfolds in the broken world of Talamh, now ruled by the ruthless Sun King Azra and his fearsome Crimson Order. Magic is outlawed, rebellion burns in secret, and a small group of outcasts rises to reclaim the forbidden arts. Each fighter brings unique skills and elemental abilities, weaving together a narrative of resistance, power, and sacrifice.

Combat That Demands Skill, Not Button Mashing

Every battle in Absolum is a test of timing and tactical awareness. The game elevates the genre with combo-based melee attacks and strategic spellcasting that reward mastery. The roguelite structure ensures each run feels fresh, forcing players to adapt and refine their approach while unlocking rare relics, powers, and devastating magical counters.

A Visual and Musical Powerhouse

Visually, SupaMonks’ hand-drawn art steals the show—rich in detail, fluid in motion, and bursting with energy. From glowing forests to ash-covered citadels, every frame feels alive. Complementing the visuals is a soundtrack crafted by industry legends—Gareth Coker (Ori, Halo Infinite), Yuka Kitamura (Dark Souls, Elden Ring), and Mick Gordon (DOOM Eternal). Together, they deliver a pulse-pounding score worthy of its mythic scale.

Why It Stands Out

Absolum is not content with nostalgia—it reinvents it. Every encounter is a brutal puzzle, every victory a testament to skill. Whether you’re brawling solo or teaming up in local co-op, the experience rewards precision, creativity, and courage. The result is a game that feels timeless and fresh all at once.

Verdict

Absolum stands tall as one of the most promising fantasy brawlers in years. Its blend of roguelite depth, artistic presentation, and arcade soul make it an unmissable entry for fans of action-packed adventures. This is not just a throwback—it’s a revolution for the beat ’em up genre.
