Operation Purge Demo: early sci-fi survival impressions from Titan
Operation Purge is a single-player, story-driven sci-fi survival game set on Titan, one of Saturn’s moons. You play as an astronaut who crash-lands after responding to a distress signal and has to explore the wreckage, repair key systems, and manage limited oxygen and water supplies to stay alive. If you’re curious to try the game, the Operation Purge demo offers a sneak peek into this thrilling adventure.
On paper it sounds like the kind of atmospheric, narrative-focused project we normally get excited about on Fix Gaming Channel—right alongside games like
Pattern Survivors: Bullet Hell — Create Chaos or
Brew – Game of the Week 29.
Right now though, the demo build of Operation Purge is in a pretty rough state.

Now for the honest part: in its current state, I can’t really recommend the Operation Purge demo. The main problem for me is that I never reached a point where the game “clicked” or clearly communicated what it wanted me to do next. As you can see in the gameplay teaser above, I got stuck very early, spent several minutes trying to get out, and ended up flying all over the planet instead of progressing the story.

Operation Purge places you in claustrophobic ship corridors before you ever step onto Titan.
Even basic usability is fighting against the experience. Pressing Escape closes the game entirely, and you’re then forced to sit through an unskippable intro cutscene every time you restart. When you’re already stuck or dealing with bugs, being sent back to the same intro over and over again does not help the pacing or the mood.

That said, this is a playtest/demo build, not a finished product. The screenshots, trailer, and overall visual presentation look great, and there’s clearly potential here if the fundamentals get tightened up: clearer objectives, better onboarding, and a pass on collision and level design around the early areas would already make a big difference.

Operation Purge opens with dramatic starship shots before everything goes wrong.

If you’re curious anyway, you can still try it for yourself on Steam and see how your experience compares to mine:

These impressions are based on the build available at the time of recording; future patches may improve (or change) things significantly, and I’ll keep an eye on it to see where it goes.
If you prefer a longer look, you can also watch the full demo gameplay capture in the video above or directly on YouTube:
