Ubisoft plans Swedish studio changes; ~55 roles may be affected at Massive and Ubisoft Stockholm

Posted on January 14, 2026January 14, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A restructure in Sweden, and 55 roles now at risk

January 13, 2026 — Ubisoft has confirmed that employees at its Swedish studios (Massive Entertainment in Malmö and Ubisoft Stockholm) have been informed about a proposed organizational restructure that may affect approximately 55 roles across the two locations. This news of Ubisoft layoffs in Sweden has concerned many within the industry. (More Ubisoft coverage: Fix Gaming Channel — Ubisoft.)

In short: this isn’t being presented as a “55 completed layoffs” announcement — it’s a restructure proposal where about 55 roles are currently at risk. Ubisoft also describes the change as structural and forward-looking, and not tied to individual performance.

What Ubisoft says the restructure is tied to

According to the company’s statement shared with press, Ubisoft frames the move as a capacity and structure adjustment linked to long-term planning. Ubisoft says it follows the completion of a Voluntary Leave Program launched in fall 2025, plus a finalized roadmap and staffing decisions that clarified what the studios need “to support the two studios’ work sustainably over time.”

Ubisoft has not publicly detailed which teams or disciplines are affected in Sweden, or provided a full public timeline for how the proposal will be implemented.

The Division 3 remains in development

For players watching Massive Entertainment closely, Ubisoft says the long-term direction for both studios remains unchanged, and that The Division franchise remains a priority as development continues on The Division 3 (alongside ongoing support for The Division 2). If you’re returning to the series, here’s one useful starting point: The Division 2 — free Steam demo guide.

The Division remains one of Ubisoft’s key franchises.

Ubisoft Stockholm is also referenced as part of the company’s longer-term plans, with public reporting pointing to continued work on an unannounced project linked to Ubisoft’s broader technology initiatives.

Why this matters

This story lands in a wider period where Ubisoft has been trimming costs and reshaping teams across multiple locations. The key detail here is how Ubisoft is wording it: a proposed restructure with ~55 roles potentially impacted, described as a structural change rather than something tied to the quality of the studios’ work.

If Ubisoft shares additional details (scope, timing, or which teams are affected), we’ll update this with the clearest confirmed information.
