Altarium game artwork showing Luxazul and green mystical

Game Review : Altarium- A Test of Survival and Strategy

Posted on December 19, 2024January 21, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A role-reversal horror hunt in Golden Horn

Reviewed on PC.Score: 7/10

Released on October 21, 2024, Altarium drops you into the dark, foreboding town of Golden Horn, where a team’s mission is simple on paper: claim the mysterious Korion Jewel and get out alive — before the guardian Luxazul turns the town into a slaughterhouse.

If you’re into the wider “survivors vs killer” space, you might also like our Dead by Daylight veteran review. For co-op ghost-hunting energy, here’s our Phasmophobia Progression 2.0 coverage.

Game Modes: PvP and Co-Op Choices Matter

Altarium’s biggest hook is its dual-mode structure:

  • PvP (Player vs. Player): pits jewel-seekers against a player-controlled Luxazul.
  • Co-Op Mode: lets players band together, relying on communication and positioning while Luxazul is handled by AI.

That mix turns every match into a tactical mess of trust, timing, and panic — especially once roles flip and the “hunter vs hunted” rhythm kicks in.

Immersive Horror Atmosphere with Striking Design

From eerie streets to echoing soundscapes, Altarium leans hard into mood. The world feels oppressive in the way multiplayer horror should: you’re not just looking for threats — you’re waiting for them.

My Experience: A Solo Player’s Perspective

As someone who prefers solo gameplay, Altarium felt like an uphill battle. Without a team, I fell prey to the shadows fast — and that’s really the point: this is a game built around coordination, callouts, and reading the room.

Even so, I appreciated the mechanics — especially the ability to switch roles from hunter to hunted. That sudden flip adds a jolt of unpredictability that keeps matches tense.

Who Will Enjoy Altarium the Most?

  • Ideal for: Multiplayer fans, horror enthusiasts, strategy gamers
  • Less ideal for: Solo players, casual quick-play sessions

If you enjoy games like Dead by Daylight or Phasmophobia with a twist of layered strategy and role reversal, Altarium will feel like home.

Altarium

Release: October 21, 2024

Genre: Multiplayer Horror, Strategy, PvP, Co-Op

Developer / Publisher: Jess Blue Tech

Platforms: Steam (PC)

Final Thoughts: A Game Best Played Together

Altarium succeeds where many multiplayer horror games fail — delivering not just fear, but tactics. The supernatural setup is compelling, but it’s the human element — the cooperation, deception, and adaptation — that defines the experience. It won’t hit the same for everyone, but for squads that love tense role-based mind games, it delivers.
