GTA 6 on PC: Will You Be Able to Play It on Launch Day?

Posted on June 27, 2025June 29, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Rockstar Confirms May 2026 Release — But What About PC?

As the official release date for Grand Theft Auto VI draws closer, one question is dominating PC gamers’ minds: Will GTA 6 be available on PC at launch? The answer, for now, is no — and if history repeats itself, we might be waiting a while.

Confirmed Release: May 26, 2026 for Consoles

Rockstar Games has locked in May 26, 2026 as the launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This was confirmed across official social channels, including a recent post from Xbox that included wishlist links for their platform. The game takes players back to the vibrant streets of a modern-day Vice City, featuring two new protagonists, including the franchise’s first female lead.

But while console players can mark their calendars, PC gamers are still left wondering if — or when — they’ll be included in the launch

No Day-One PC Version — And Here’s Why

Rockstar Games has a long-standing pattern of delaying the PC release of its biggest titles:

🕹️ GTA V launched in September 2013 on consoles but didn’t arrive on PC until April 2015.

🤠 Red Dead Redemption 2 was released in October 2018 on console, and PC players had to wait until November 2019.

So far, there’s been no official confirmation of a PC version for GTA 6, though it’s widely expected to come later.

What About Xbox Cloud or Game Pass?

Some hoped Rockstar might follow the Xbox Play Anywhere model or release a streaming version via Xbox Cloud Gaming — but that’s unlikely for a blockbuster of this scale. Rockstar has not supported day-one cloud streaming or Game Pass releases for its mainline titles in the past.

Unless something changes dramatically in Rockstar’s publishing strategy, PC gamers will need to wait.

PC Version Could Still Be the Best Version

While the wait is frustrating, there’s a silver lining. PC versions of Rockstar games tend to be better optimized, support higher resolutions, and benefit from modding communities that extend a game’s life far beyond console limits.

That means if you’re patient, your experience might ultimately be the best one — just not the first.

💡 TL;DR — No, You Won’t Play GTA 6 on PC at Launch

Unless Rockstar shocks the world, Grand Theft Auto VI will not be available on PC on day one. Console gamers will lead the charge on May 26, 2026, while PC players will likely have to wait at least several months, if not a year or more.
