The Mortuary Assistant Brings the Chilling Nightmare to Consoles With the Definitive Edition on August 2

Posted on July 20, 2024November 24, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

In celebration of the game’s second anniversary, indie developer DarkStone Digital and publisher DreadXP are unleashing The Mortuary Assistant: Definitive Edition on consoles this August 2, 2025. The new edition will arrive on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Nintendo Switch, while also delivering updates to the PC version.

A Night You Won’t Escape

In this narrative-driven horror sim, players assume the role of Rebecca Owens, a recent graduate beginning her apprenticeship at the infamous River Fields Mortuary. What starts as a routine embalming job quickly spirals into a fight for sanity as demonic forces manifest. Communication with her employer, Raymond, provides some guidance—but escape is not an option.

New Features in the Definitive Edition

  • Additional Haunt Events
  • Endless Embalming Mode
  • Expanded Lore and Bodies
  • Performance and UI Enhancements
  • Upcoming Seasonal Event – Valentine’s Day Special (February)

Whether you’re a returning player or a newcomer, the Definitive Edition ensures deeper scares, added storylines, and refined performance across all platforms.

From Indie Roots to Horror Staple

Since 2018, Brian Clarke, the solo developer behind DarkStone Digital, has built a reputation for crafting deeply atmospheric and psychologically unnerving games. His previous works, including The Subject and Our Secret Below, showcase his commitment to unique, story-rich horror experiences.

DreadXP, the publisher behind several beloved indie horror titles, continues to support small developers by amplifying original and terrifying creations. For more on their future releases, check out DreadXP’s official site.
