A Surreal Descent into Madness, Gore, and Cult Horror

Lose yourself in a surreal, psycho-horror dreamscape as you explore a mysterious villa in Malibu. Haus is the first story expansion for Dead Island 2, and it’s as twisted as it is gory. From elite death cults to latex-clad zombies, this DLC ramps up the strangeness while delivering a familiar gameplay experience. Here’s our full breakdown of what to expect inside the walls of the Kult.

Dead Island 2: Haus DLC

Release Date: November 2, 2023

Genre: Action, Horror, First-Person

Developer/Publisher: Deep Silver Dambuster Studios / Deep Silver

Platforms: Steam

The Setting: A Mansion Drenched in Gore and Madness

The heart of the Haus DLC is its strange and nightmarish location—an elite Malibu mansion now repurposed by a cult obsessed with survival through chaos. The twisted art design, eerie lighting, and disturbing lore breathe life into the villa’s halls.

Meet the Kult

The antagonists this time around are the Kult, a group of disturbingly committed survivalists with a warped worldview. Players will face unsettling encounters with both the living and the undead as they uncover the cult’s motives and their deadly ambitions.

What’s New in Gameplay?

Weapons and Cards

While the core mechanics stay true to the base game, Haus introduces new weapons and skill cards that add a bit of flair. These tools fit well within the established combat rhythm, offering slight variations without changing the formula drastically.

Map and Missions

The DLC takes place across a smaller map with familiar mission structures. Tasks mostly revolve around clearing areas, surviving waves, and discovering scattered narrative clues. It’s not a massive departure from the main campaign, but it’s consistent and well-polished.

Visuals and Tone

Dead Island 2’s unique blend of dark humor and over-the-top gore continues here, but with an added layer of psychological horror. The visual design—complete with fetish-wear zombies—is strikingly different and helps separate this DLC thematically from the main story.

Is It Worth It?

Dead Island 2 Haus is not an essential purchase for those who didn’t enjoy the core game, but fans will likely find it a fun, if short, addition. Its strongest points lie in atmosphere and lore rather than gameplay innovation.

Final Thoughts

Haus doesn’t reinvent Dead Island 2, but it deepens the universe with a surreal, cult-driven story and visually shocking aesthetics. If you’ve already enjoyed the base game, this DLC adds enough flavor to be worth the ride. Just don’t expect it to stretch too far from what you know.
