Ofer Rubinstein’s Dark Fantasy Dungeon Crawler

A Unique Blend of Horror and Strategy

Golel is a first-person RPG that combines turn-based actions with tile-based movement. The game encourages players to use the environment to their advantage, turning ordinary objects into weapons. Dropping bookshelves on skeletons or kicking zombies into spikes are examples of how movement and positioning can matter as much as direct attacks.

Deep, Non-Linear Gameplay

Rubinstein has designed a game world rich with complexity. Golel boasts hundreds of different skills, stats, and build paths, along with a non-linear world that offers freedom of exploration. Players can delve into a main campaign that spans over 30 hours, with every weapon introducing unique combat talents and tactics.

Replayability and Endless Challenges

The project was also designed around replayability, blending hand-built and randomized elements. Beyond the main campaign, a procedurally generated challenge mode was planned to provide additional runs and varied combat situations.

Striding Into Unnatural Realms

Players take the role of a warrior haunted by visions, moving through hostile environments filled with monsters, hazards, and potentially helpful characters. The dark fantasy presentation and tactical movement were the main reasons the project stood out when we first covered it.
