Overkill Squad Hits Steam With Chaotic Twin-Stick Action, Launch Discount & Dev Q&A

Posted on December 6, 2025December 11, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Overkill Squad launches on Steam with chaotic twin-stick action and a 40% discount

Overkill Squad has just launched on Steam, bringing a fast, heavy-metal twin-stick shooter roguelite from developer Chillfox Games. For those wondering about Overkill Squad first impressions, the game, released on December 4, 2025, throws you into short, one-minute stages packed with bullets, explosions, and relics – and it’s opening with a 40% introductory discount until December 18, which makes it an easy recommendation if you’re into this kind of arcade chaos.

Each run is about pure reflex and build-crafting rather than story: you pick a fighter with a unique special and melee attack, jump into levels ranging from wastelands to space ships, and try to survive as enemies flood the screen in classic bullet hell fashion.

Overkill Squad

Release: December 4, 2025

Genre: Twin-stick shooter, action roguelite

Developer / Publisher: Chillfox Games

Platforms: PC — Steam

What was the original spark for Overkill Squad – what did you want players to feel once everything really kicks off on screen?

The thing is I value my time. And most of the indie games are priced averagely 5 dollars. This means players hesitate not because of the price but they also value their time and are hesitant to play a game because they are not sure if it is worth their time. I wanted to make a game which respects players’ time and dives right into action. Also I wanted to make a game which you could play just for 20 minutes and it would give you a great rush to get you through your day. To ensure that rush, I focused on developing the feedback mechanism for my game. Every weapon has different bullet speed, force factor, damage etc. and these affect many things such as screen shake, blood splatter, corpses flying away… All was made for only 1 purpose in mind, to make sure players had fun using weapons and blasting away enemies. You could say that I wanted to make something raw, fun and chaotic in it’s purest form.

The game ramps up fast and gets pretty intense. How did you approach tuning the difficulty for both newcomers and twin-stick veterans?

Well I actually reduced the difficulty 4 times before. The demo version was a disaster, everyone kept dying under 5 seconds. It seemed easy to me but I don’t think I qualify as a balancing point anymore. Overkill Squad has 12 different difficult modifiers represented as threat levels. After clearing the game with a character you unlock a new threat level for that character which makes the game a bit harder. It has been quite fun, players keep asking me if there is a way to change the difficulty to something easier and I always answer “No, but you can make it more difficult” . Joking aside I value player feedback and If I think players are really struggling I will balance the game. That is why we have the discord server, to get their feedbacks.

Overkill Squad boss fight against a huge red tentacled creature in space, dodging a dense pattern of explosive fireballs.

Boss fights in Overkill Squad crank up the chaos with screen-filling attacks and tight dodge windows.

If Overkill Squad had a dev-only secret weapon, what totally broken thing would it do?

Overkill Squad has so many dev only secret weapons, that is how I tested the game. That is one of the reasons game is essentially bug free. But for now they are only for me

Which character would you absolutely not trust to keep you alive in a real apocalypse?

This one is obvious for me. Crow the accountant. Never trust your accountant even in a real apocalypse.
