Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been an interesting game for many Sonic fans due to how it promises to celebrate every spin-off racer the series has had to offer. The Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders, the customization and team mechanics of Team Sonic Racing, and the fan-favorite appeal of the Sonic All Stars games and Sonic R are all in this one experience.
With this lofty promise, many fans have wanted to experience the game for themselves and see if it lives up to it. Now, players can enjoy the game at no extra cost for an entire weekend. This ONT features 13 characters, 9 courses, 7 CrossWorlds, 21 customizable vehicles, and 42 gadgets. On top of that, there will be 3 Grand Prix circuits and a one-day special event to play through.
With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ open network test being available on multiple platforms, almost everyone can join in and play the game for free from August 28 to September 1.
What You Need To Know Before Joining the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Open Network Test
- The Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds ONT is only available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam and Epic.
- Available in most major regions with some exceptions. Search for the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds open network test on your platform of choice, and if you find it, you can play. If you can’t find it, it isn’t available.
- The Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds ONT is on the original Nintendo Switch with no Switch 2 version. However, the original Switch version can be played on the Switch 2 regardless.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds’ Open Network Test Gives Players a Whole Weekend to Run Its Course
- DLC character Joker will be available through the Joker Festival event happening on August 31 US time.
- Players will need to complete at least one Grand Prix to unlock multiplayer.
- PS and Xbox subscriptions won’t be required to play online, but Nintendo Switch Online is required for Switch players.
- Save data won’t carry over to the full game, but players will receive special cosmetics for participating if they play Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the same account they participated in the ONT with.

Sega has provided a list on time zones to use as a reference guide to find out when the ONT starts in your time zone.
- PST (US) – Thurs, Aug. 28, 9:01 p.m. to Mon, Sept. 1, 8:59 p.m.
- EST (US) – Friday, Aug. 29, 12:01 a.m. to Tuesday, Sept. 2, 11:59 p.m.
- UTC (UK) – Fri, Aug. 29, 4:01 a.m. to Tues, Sept. 2, 3:59 a.m.
- JST (Japan) – Fri, Aug. 29, 1:01 p.m. to Tues, Sept. 2, 12:59 p.m.
Considering how Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is shaping up to be a game filled with content from courses to character rivalry interactions, getting to see what the gameplay is all about for an entire weekend at no charge is quite an opportunity. It’s not only great for Sonic fans who have been waiting for this game since its reveal at the Game Awards, but racing fanatics of all kinds.
