Warning image about Steam phishing scam targeting gamers – Scam Alert

Update — New lure after “Solarpunk Playtest”: fake “Battlefield 6 (BF Labs) closed beta” DM

Posted on September 5, 2025February 4, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Red flags to watch for

  • Unsolicited Steam DMs offering playtest keys or invites can often be part of a Steam DM scam.
  • Bait-and-switch when questioned (“Solarpunk” → “Battlefield 6 / BF Labs”).
  • Links that do not go to official Steam domains (steampowered.com / steamcommunity.com).
  • Legit Steam Playtests appear as a “Request Access” button on a game’s store page (not via chat DMs).
  • Battlefield Labs sign-ups are handled by EA via official pages; not distributed through random Steam chats.

For background on the first wave of reports, see:
Scam Warning: Fake Solarpunk Playtest.

What to do

  1. Do not click. Report and block the profile from its Steam page (… → Report Player).
  2. If you clicked anything, secure your account: deauthorize other devices, change your password from a clean device, and regenerate Steam Guard backup codes.
