“Roadside Research” overlay on a rural gas station with Sean’s Auto two-bay garage and an ICE chest — “Demo available on Steam”.

Gas-Station Visual Compare: Roadside Research × Before Exit (+ The Legacy cameo)

Posted on October 5, 2025October 24, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Looks-Alike: Same Vibe at the Gas Station (Visual Compare)

I don’t make games — I play them. To my eyes, two recent titles look strikingly similar at one roadside stop, and a third has a cameo that feels close.
This is a gas-station visual compare, not a verdict. If I’m wrong, I’ll fix it.

TL;DR

  • Strict looks-alike: Roadside Research ⬌ Before Exit: Gas Station (canopy profile, porch + two-bay “Sean’s Auto” garage, pump island/ICE chest, white cargo van).
  • Cameo: The Legacy has a trailer frame that looks similar, but the angle/dressing differ — treating it as a reference cameo, not a 1:1 shot.
  • Also looks a lot like the Unity Asset Store kit “Rural Gas Station” by QuadArt (official showcase linked below).
  • Not an accusation. Marketplace reuse is common in indie dev. I’ve asked the teams for attribution so I can caption accurately.

The Visual Frame: Side-by-Side

Visual comparison only: QuadArt’s “Rural Gas Station” asset next to scenes from Roadside Research, Before Exit: Gas Station, and The Legacy. Different renders; similar canopy/garage/van details. Attribution requested.
Asset pack vs three games—similar canopy, two-bay garage “Sean’s Auto,” and white van; visuals-only comparison.

What I Noticed

The match between Roadside Research and Before Exit is almost uncanny — the same layout, white van position, and even a similar ICE chest and side porch angle. It’s not a perfect match, but it’s close enough that I had to rewind and double-check I hadn’t rewatched the same clip twice.

Meanwhile, The Legacy has one angled frame that echoes the setup — but with different foliage and lighting. I consider that a coincidental resemblance, possibly a reused environment pack with different decoration.

Asset Pack Source?

After some digging, I found the Unity Asset Store pack “Rural Gas Station” by QuadArt, which has a strikingly similar layout and dressing to what’s shown in the trailers. The van, pump canopy, and general layout all match up very closely. That doesn’t mean any dev did anything wrong — asset reuse is completely normal and efficient in indie production.

Four images compared side-by-side: the Unity “Rural Gas Station” asset (QuadArt) and frames from Roadside Research, Before Exit: Gas Station, and The Legacy. Each shows the canopy, two-bay “Sean’s Auto” garage, pump island, and a white van for a visual looks-alike comparison.

Why I Share This

I write and film hundreds of games each year. Spotting patterns, overlaps, and artistic echoes is part of the journey. This is not a “gotcha” — just a curious comparison. I believe devs deserve credit, not blame, and reuse is part of the toolkit for making great things fast. If I missed something, or one of these games built everything from scratch — tell me and I’ll update.
