HUNGER brings plague horror, black powder combat, and extraction RPG survival to a twisted Napoleonic Europe.
From GOOD FUN CORPORATION, this is one of the darker multiplayer horror projects currently heading towards Early Access.
HUNGER is a multiplayer extraction RPG that throws players into the chaos of plague-ravaged Napoleonic Europe. From what we have seen so far, the game blends brutal melee and ranged combat with deep, long-term character progression, questing, scavenging, and crafting.
Players will need to search the landscape for vital equipment and resources, while battling unspeakable horrors that would look very much at home in games like ILL and Resident Evil.

A War-Ravaged Europe With Something Worse Left Behind
Set in the aftermath of a war-ravaged Europe, HUNGER takes a familiar historical period and twists it into something far more sinister. A bacterium of unknown origin has gripped the continent, leaving behind ruin, fear, and infected horrors.
At its core, this is a deep first-person RPG, one where your story unfolds through the high-stakes loop of a multiplayer extraction shooter. Player progression runs from level 1 to 100, with advancement earned through quests, surviving Expeditions, and mastering a robust skill system that evolves with the choices you make.
That gives HUNGER more weight than a simple run-in, loot-up, get-out structure. The game is clearly pushing towards long-term progression, character investment, and the pressure of deciding what is worth risking every time you step beyond safety.
The Stash, the Chateau, and Surviving the Next Expedition
Resources and essential items you scavenge in the world are managed through The Stash, your stronghold of security within the Chateau. It functions as the primary point of storage, loadout preparation, and post-Expedition resource management.
All items and currency you want to protect are stored there, away from the dangers beyond the chateau walls. Each character you unlock also maintains their own unique Stash, which should make character choice and preparation feel more important over time.
It is a smart fit for the setting. This is a world where survival looks messy, violent, and uncertain, and the idea of returning to your Chateau after an Expedition gives the whole loop a useful sense of relief before the next risk begins.

Black Powder Panic and Desperate Melee
Combat can look frighteningly desperate, especially with period single-shot rifles that force you to prioritise the most dangerous or lethal target when exploring the world.
Using your rifle means creating enough distance for the round to still be effective, while also keeping enough space between you and your quarry to reload ball and powder before they close the attack gap.
Your backup is a trusty sword, where melee combat appears to strike a balance between first-strike opportunity and panic-stricken hacking and slashing at infected, zombie-like foes. That mix of black powder, steel, and plague horror gives HUNGER a grim identity of its own.

Is Napoleonic Horror Becoming a Thing?
HUNGER is the second game we have covered recently that is set within a twisted Napoleonic-era timeline. We previously wrote about Valor Mortis, the first-person action Soulslike from One More Level, which also featured plague-infected enemies.
Whether there is a new trend emerging for Napoleonic-era sci-fi and horror remains to be seen, but it is definitely one that is creating some keenly interesting settings for players to explore.
HUNGER is carving out its own gorgeously twisted and macabre look, blending dark, gory plague horror with a Napoleonic, steampunk flavour. It is not clean fantasy, and it is not straight historical fiction. It sits somewhere nastier, stranger, and far more interesting.
From the Team Behind a Tactical Multiplayer Legacy
HUNGER is developed by GOOD FUN CORPORATION, a UK-based game development studio founded in 2023 by Maximilian (Max) Ria, the former CEO of Black Matter, the original creators of Hell Let Loose.
The studio largely consists of developers who transitioned over from Black Matter, retaining a veteran development team with experience in large-scale tactical multiplayer experiences.
The team is also building healthy community support through playtests and regular updates on the game’s official Steam page. Following Open Beta, the team’s goal is to move towards Early Access in 2026.
One to Wishlist
HUNGER is one we will be adding to our wishlist for sure. It has the kind of pitch that stands out quickly: plague-ravaged Napoleonic Europe, brutal first-person combat, black powder weapons, RPG progression, extraction pressure, grotesque enemies, and a world that looks both ruined and oddly beautiful.
There is still plenty we need to see before judging how well the loop holds together over longer sessions, but the concept already has something many extraction games struggle to build: a setting that feels dangerous before the first shot is even fired.
