Red Barrels Announces 'The Outlast Trials' First Major Update with a New Mobster Villain on the Docks Map
Indie horror studio Red Barrels has unveiled its first significant update since the launch of The Outlast Trials. The update, slated for release on July 16th, introduces a daunting new villain, Franco 'Il Bambino' Barbi, a mobster with a predilection for mother's milk and violence, set to terrify players in the new "The Docks" map.
Release Date: 5 Mar, 2024
Genre: Horror, Multiplayer, Survival Horror
Developer: Red Barrels
Publisher: Red Barrels
Platforms: PC, Xbox, Playstation
Franco Barbi, dubbed "Il Bambino," is not your typical antagonist in the Outlast series. For the first time, players will encounter a gun-wielding enemy, as Franco comes armed with a sawed-off shotgun that promises to challenge players' survival strategies from a distance. The setting for this chilling encounter is "The Docks," a locale that doubles as Franco's sinister domain and a new playground of horrors for players.
The update extends beyond a new villain and map. Red Barrels has also introduced 'Escalation Therapy,' a rogue-lite game mode that continuously challenges players with randomized trials until they meet their demise. This mode, combined with a new player ability called 'The Barricade,' adds strategic depth to the gameplay, allowing players to block paths and strategize their escapes more effectively.
Furthermore, the update enriches the game with several new trials and MK-Challenges, difficulty options, and a revamped in-game economy. These enhancements are designed to improve player experience with more structured gameplay and rewarding challenges.
As part of this release, Red Barrels is also launching a new DLC, "The Exotica Pack," which includes legendary outfits and unique cell items, available for $19.99.
This update, known as Project Lupara, is just the beginning of what Red Barrels promises to be a series of exciting new content for the game, which has already sold over 2 million copies.
