Mobster Bambino sits with gun under looming hand in Outlast Trials

Red Barrels Announces the Outlast Trials First Major Update With a New Mobster Villain on the Docks Map

Posted on July 13, 2024June 11, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A New Nightmare Emerges in Project Lupara

Indie horror studio Red Barrels has announced a chilling new update for The Outlast Trials, set to launch on July 16th. This first major update since release introduces a terrifying villain named Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi—a shotgun-wielding mobster whose creepy obsession with mother’s milk adds an eerie twist to the game’s already unsettling tone. Players will encounter him on the brand-new map: The Docks.

Meet Franco “Il Bambino” Barbi: A Mobster with a Sawed-Off Shotgun

Franco Barbi changes the game’s formula by being the first gun-wielding threat in the Outlast universe. Armed with a sawed-off shotgun, he forces players to rethink their stealth tactics and long-range avoidance. His personal horror zone, “The Docks,” offers dimly lit corners, environmental traps, and haunting ambient soundscapes that keep tension high throughout.

New Game Mode: Escalation Therapy

The update introduces a brutal rogue-lite mode called Escalation Therapy. Players must endure randomized trials continuously until they’re finally brought down. No breaks. No guarantees. Just raw survival. This mode injects replayability and intensity into every session.

New Abilities and Content

Alongside the new map and villain, players will now have access to The Barricade, a player ability allowing the strategic blocking of enemy paths. Additionally, new MK-Challenges, updated difficulty settings, and a redesigned in-game economy ensure that veterans and new players alike find reasons to return.

The Exotica Pack DLC

Also releasing on July 16th is the Exotica Pack DLC, priced at $19.99. It includes:

  • Legendary Outfits
  • Unique Cell Items
  • Bonus cosmetic content

The Bigger Picture: Project Lupara

This entire update, collectively titled Project Lupara, marks the beginning of an extended content roadmap for The Outlast Trials. With over 2 million copies sold, Red Barrels shows no signs of slowing down.
