Who Makes the Wildest Games? Mundfish—and Their Next Era Is Here

Posted on June 10, 2025June 10, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

From Soviet Sci-Fi to Industry Disruptors: The Rise of Mundfish

Every so often, a studio comes along that feels genuinely unpredictable. For the past few years, Mundfish has been that wildcard—blasting onto the scene with the bold, divisive, and visually stunning Atomic Heart. Now, as they prep the world for Atomic Heart 2 and the genre-warping multiplayer shooter The CUBE, it’s worth asking: Who are these people, and why is everyone watching their next move?

Meet Mundfish: Fearless, Controversial, and Creative

Founded in Moscow in 2017, Mundfish is the brainchild of a small team with big ideas—Robert Bagratuni, Evgenia Sedova, Artem Galeev, and Oleg Gorodishenin. Their debut? Atomic Heart, a fever-dream FPS that mashed up Soviet-era weirdness with retrofuturistic art, crazy robots, and an offbeat (sometimes baffling) story. Despite polarizing reviews, the game made a serious splash—over 10 million players worldwide, major visual awards, and enough buzz to put them on the global map.

But it hasn’t all been smooth. Mundfish faced controversy over its Russian roots and funding, and debates still rage about Atomic Heart’s storytelling. Yet if there’s one thing nobody questions, it’s their commitment to creativity and pushing boundaries.

Developer / Publisher: Mundfish

Release Date: TBA (Wishlist on Steam)

Platforms: PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S

Atomic Heart 2: Turning Up the Volume on Alternate History

The sequel is shaping up to be bigger, weirder, and more ambitious. Atomic Heart 2 promises a “global scale” disaster set in the same atompunk world—but this time, the fallout isn’t contained to a single facility. Expect returning (and new) characters, explosive combat, and a world that feels even more alive and unpredictable. Dual-wielding powers, expanded RPG systems, and a promise to learn from the first game’s narrative stumbles. No solid release date yet, but it’s already wishlisted by fans eager for more.

The CUBE: What Even Is This?

Leave it to Mundfish to tease an MMO shooter that defies description. The CUBE puts players inside (and around) a massive levitating cube—a shifting, reality-bending labyrinth with secrets that could destroy the world. Levels rotate and reconfigure in real time. Combat and teamwork are essential. The story? Nobody really knows, but it’s clear that this is Mundfish’s “let’s see how far we can go” moment. Multiplayer, persistent progression, and a world that literally changes beneath your feet. No launch date yet, but the concept alone is enough to get the gaming world buzzing.

ILL: Horror, Redefined (by Friends of Mundfish)

While not developed in-house, ILL is the first game published by Mundfish’s new “Powerhouse” label, created by Team Clout. This one’s for the horror diehards: FPS action, gruesome physics-driven dismemberment, unpredictable monsters, and a dark fort filled with pure nightmare fuel. The buzz around its SGF 2025 trailer is real, and the tech behind its gore and physics might set new standards for the genre.
