Nightmare Shift Brings Motel Horror to Xbox Series X|S and PS5

Posted on July 21, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A routine motel shift becomes a psychological nightmare

Nightmare Shift launches for Xbox Series X|S on July 30, followed by PlayStation 5 on August 13, 2026.

Developed by Syrian indie studio Binary Lunar, Nightmare Shift follows Emma, a newly hired motel receptionist whose ordinary night duties begin to blur with paranoia, nightmares, and the feeling that someone is watching her.

The first-person horror game combines exploration, routine tasks, mysterious guests, and puzzle-solving with multiple endings shaped by the player’s choices. Horror fans can also check out our coverage of Who Are You!? and the painted psychological horror demo PRISON OF HUSKS.

Survive the night shift

Emma must complete routine duties at both her apartment and the remote motel while dealing with unsettling guests and unexplained events. Each new encounter can bring her closer to the truth or push her further into paranoia.

The isolated Route 68 Motel provides the setting for Emma’s increasingly disturbing night shift.

Nightmare Shift is primarily a walking simulator with puzzle elements rather than a combat-heavy survival horror game. Its story was influenced by thrillers including the 2018 Korean film Door Lock.

Different choices lead to different endings

The publisher estimates that a playthrough can take between around 30 minutes and several hours. Player decisions can lead to different endings, giving the short horror experience some replay value.

The PC version originally launched through Steam on July 15, 2025. Ultimate Games S.A. is handling the new console editions, which are priced at $11.99/€11.99 or the regional equivalent.
