Many modern adventure games use a hand-drawn visual style, but Legends of Castile takes that description literally. Its environments begin as physical pencil drawings before being digitally colored and prepared in Full HD resolution.

Following Enshrouded as Game of the Week #62, this week’s selection takes the series toward a colorful point-and-click adventure inspired by Spanish history and folklore.

The artwork is one of the clearest reasons Legends of Castile stands out. Developer Torrezno Entertainment has created around 50 scenes, with each location initially drawn by hand using pencil and paper.

The drawings are digitally colored in Full HD, while the characters use traditional frame-by-frame animation and lip-syncing. The result feels closer to an illustrated comic or animated storybook than a standard retro-inspired adventure.

The adventure follows María, a fearless but clumsy young woman living in 19th-century Castile. After experiencing a vision of the Virgin Mary, she decides that she wants to become a nun.

She travels to a convent in Burgos, but her future mother superior gives her an unusual assignment before she can be ordained.

Mythological creatures have begun appearing across Castile. María must investigate the sightings and collect an item from each creature as proof that they exist.

Instead of fighting her way through the region, she relies on observation, conversations, collected objects, and lateral thinking.

Spanish folklore and classic point-and-click puzzles

Legends of Castile draws from the myths, architecture, landscapes, and traditions of the historic Castile region of Spain. Players will encounter more than 30 characters and mythological creatures across villages, forests, convents, and other illustrated locations.

The game takes inspiration from classics such as Monkey Island and Broken Sword, but aims to avoid some of the genre’s more frustrating habits.

There are no deaths or permanent dead ends, and the developer promises no slider, jigsaw, or mechanical puzzle interruptions. Players instead inspect, collect, combine, and use objects while solving problems through conversations and experimentation.
