The Nintendo Switch 2 retains the hybrid design of its predecessor, allowing for handheld, tabletop, and docked modes, but enhances the experience with powerful new hardware. The console features a 7.9-inch LCD screen, offering full HD resolution, which Nintendo promises will deliver “vivid, detailed game experiences and smooth graphics.”

One of the standout features of the Switch 2 is the Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now snap to the console with magnetic connectors and can be used as a mouse in compatible games. This new functionality is expected to offer more precision and versatility in gameplay, expanding the types of games that can be effectively played on the system.

Additionally, Nintendo has introduced GameChat, a feature that allows up to 12 players to engage in voice and video chat while gaming, aiming to recreate the feeling of playing in the same room. This feature will be available without a Nintendo Switch Online membership until March 2026.

The system also supports a range of new and updated games, including “Mario Kart World” and “Donkey Kong Bananza,” along with enhancements to beloved franchises such as “The Legend of Zelda” and “Metroid Prime.” These games are designed to leverage the new capabilities of the Switch 2, promising richer experiences and deeper immersion.

“Nintendo Switch 2 is the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go,” said Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo. “With its new features that expand the possibilities of gaming experiences, I truly believe that Nintendo Switch 2 is a leap forward in our journey of putting smiles on the faces of everyone that Nintendo touches.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 will also be available in a bundle with “Mario Kart World” for $499.99. Pre-orders for the console will begin on April 9, 2025, in North America.
