Payday 3 Announces Major 2024 Overhaul With “Operation Medic Bag”

Posted on March 3, 2024August 6, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Starbreeze Studios has officially announced Operation Medic Bag, a sweeping new overhaul for PAYDAY 3 aimed at reshaping the game throughout 2024. After months of player feedback, this roadmap signals a renewed focus on performance, co-op systems, replay value, and restoring that classic heisting fantasy.

Four Key Focus Areas for the 2024 Overhaul

1. Optimization & Reliability

Starbreeze is tackling longstanding technical issues head-on. From crash fixes to smoother UI navigation, this part of the roadmap promises a more stable and polished experience.

2. Teamwork & Co-op Enhancements

Improved party management and new communication tools will streamline the co-op experience. A Crime.Net-style server browser and updated matchmaking system are also in the works.

3. Replayability & Progression

Challenge-based progression is out. In its place, a more satisfying system based on heist completions will allow for better pacing, rewards, and infamy bonuses for creative playstyles.

4. Fantasy & Heisting

To recapture the essence of PAYDAY, the developers are adding immersive features like a visual heist map and themed UI. Expect more atmosphere and less menu-hopping.

Solo and Offline Play Coming in Phases

A major community request is finally being addressed. Solo and offline play is being rolled out in two phases:

  • Phase 1: Online-required backend for progression, but playable alone.
  • Phase 2: True offline capability, with infrequent connection checks for syncing.

More DLCs, Lower Prices?

Three paid DLCs and one free heist are on the calendar for 2024. Acknowledging past criticism, the team is actively reviewing DLC pricing structures to better align with player expectations.

UI Redesign, Daily Activities & Controller Tweaks

Expect a visual overhaul of the game’s interface, with a more intuitive layout matching the criminal underworld tone. Controller optimization is also on the radar—along with new daily activities offering rewards.

PAYDAY 3

What About Unreal Engine 5?

A Call for Community: Join the AMA

The developers are hosting a Reddit AMA to discuss Operation Medic Bag, continuing their pledge to maintain transparency and stay engaged with PAYDAY’s loyal player base.
