Completed achievement sets keep their trophy when new goals arrive
Valve has launched Steam Achievement Sets in beta, giving supported games a way to separate base-game and DLC achievements. According to Valve’s October 15 announcement, DLC achievements stay out of your overall game progress until you have access to that content.

Your completed sets keep their trophy
Each set has its own progress bar. Finish every achievement in a set and Steam awards a completion trophy that is preserved if more achievements are added later. New content can still have its own achievements to complete.
DLC sets track their progress separately, with purple bars distinguishing them from the blue base-game sets. That gives achievement hunters a clearer record of what they have finished and what remains in their additional content.

Developers can also archive achievements that can no longer be earned. Players keep previously earned unlocks, while missed archived achievements stop blocking completion.
Available in beta, with developer support
Players need the Steam Client Beta and a game that has adopted the feature. DREDGE, Portal 2 and Forza Horizon 5 are among the supported games listed by Valve.
For developers, Valve says sets are configured in Steamworks, without requiring a game or SDK update. Existing achievement unlock calls continue working.
