SteamDolls – Order Of Chaos: Stealth, Chaos, and AAA Voice Talent

Posted on February 12, 2025May 2, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Step into the crumbling heart of a dystopian steampunk world in SteamDolls – Order of Chaos, a stylish action-adventure experience from indie developer The Shady Gentlemen. With its striking blend of 2D hand-drawn art, 3D cinematics, and a dark, philosophical storyline, this game challenges players to navigate decay, corruption, and rebellion—all voiced by an ensemble of AAA talent.

A City Drowning in Its Own Past

Set in a society on the brink of collapse, SteamDolls plunges players into a world where innovation has turned to stagnation, and progress is an illusion. Decay is everywhere—etched into buildings, whispered in the alleyways, and embedded in the minds of the citizens, now reduced to monstrous shadows of their former selves. Through hand-drawn cutscenes and 3D cinematic sequences, the world oozes personality, grit, and philosophical undertones.

Gameplay Dynamics: A Whisper in the Shadows

You play as The Whisper, a rogue anarchist and thief who operates between the lines of stealth and savagery. Gameplay mixes fast-paced action platforming with brutal combat and stealth-lite mechanics. You’ll explore a dense, nonlinear cityscape while hacking terminals, solving environmental puzzles, and uncovering dark secrets that piece together the fall of this dying world.

Key Mechanics

  • Stealth and assassination tools for silent takedowns
  • Dynamic combat with visceral finishers and environmental kills
  • Exploration-based level design inspired by classic Metroidvanias
  • Terminal hacking and world-building data logs
  • Hidden secrets, upgrades, and multiple paths to navigate

A Story Built on Iron and Ideals

The story revolves around a strange superconductive material that should have revolutionized civilization—but instead deepened its fall. Rather than breaking cycles, the substance only fortified the iron grip of regression. Citizens are now bound to the remnants of failed revolutions and technological nightmares, resulting in a haunting reflection on power, truth, and control.

Starring Voices You Know

SteamDolls – Order of Chaos raises the bar with its cast of high-caliber voice talent:

  • David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid) as The Whisper
  • Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, Baldur’s Gate 3)
  • Christopher Randolph (Otacon, Metal Gear Solid)

Each actor breathes life into unique characters, from immortal aristocrats longing for death to powerful goddesses and ruthless gunslingers. This ensemble enhances the emotional weight of every interaction and cutscene.

Inspiration and Influence

The game draws inspiration from classics like Castlevania and Hollow Knight, with the combat tension of Dead Cells and the oppressive ambiance of Bloodborne. It merges multiple genre styles to deliver a hybrid experience that balances traditional platforming with modern, story-driven gameplay.

A Game That Ends with a Whisper, Not a Bang

SteamDolls – Order of Chaos is not just another indie Metroidvania—it’s a harsh yet beautiful commentary on resistance, identity, and the echoes of a fractured society. Every shadow hides a message. Every corner of the city holds a secret. And the end may be quieter, but far more devastating than anyone expects.
