GRAFT
GRAFT is a beautifully unusual cyberpunk survival-horror RPG from Harebrained, the studio behind the Shadowrun Trilogy. Set within the ancient and ever-changing Arc, it asks you to survive by taking grafts that change your body and grant new abilities. The grisly idea goes further than simply collecting upgrades.
Each graft brings half-glimpsed memories and strange impulses along with its physical benefits. How you react to those urges could shape your identity and your relationships with the survivors you meet. That combination of tense horror and character-driven consequences is what makes this one stand out for us.
Upcoming; release date not yet announced.
GRAFT blends body horror with a story about identity.
THE DARK WEST
The Dark West is a hardcore occult action RPG set across a frontier being consumed by corruption. You can use dark magic and period weapons against enemies known as the Order and the Damned, while hunting for gear and skills to build a character capable of surviving the horrors ahead.
The combat is intended to be lethal, with positioning, timing, reload management and aggression all playing their part. Ghost towns, abandoned mines, cursed forests and ritual grounds make for a wonderfully bleak setting. The combination of occult skills and western gunplay could be something special.
Coming to Steam Early Access; release date not yet announced.
The Dark West combines a dying frontier with occult action-RPG combat.
THE ROAD OF DUST AND SORROW
The Road of Dust and Sorrow is a story-driven pixel-art horror adventure inspired by classics such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. A crop developed to end famine instead becomes humanity’s undoing, leaving behind feral creatures called Dusters.
Katherine and her daughter Ava must cross the remnants of civilisation in search of somewhere safe, but their journey attracts the attention of the Pastor and his sinister followers. Think a pixel-art take on The Last of Us, with shades of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. That is a rather compelling mix.
Scheduled for 3 December 2026 on Steam.

The Road of Dust and Sorrow tells a mother-and-daughter survival story.
BLACK LAKE
Black Lake is a first-person survival-horror game about searching for your missing twin sister in an abandoned orphanage surrounded by an endless black ocean. Candles, stealth, weapons and exploration all feature, but it is the story’s focus on grief, guilt and sacrifice that could give the experience its weight.
The setting has a dark, foreboding atmosphere that recalls Silent Hill. Every room promises a purpose and every encounter a piece of a larger mystery, with character-driven puzzles and the fate of the orphanage’s vanished children woven into the experience. If you enjoy your games gloomy, this one could scratch that itch.
Coming soon; release date not yet announced.
Black Lake centres on a missing sister and an abandoned orphanage.
BLACK TIDES DRAGA’S WAKE
Black Tides Draga’s Wake is a third-person action-horror game from Strange Creature Factory Ltd.. Like GRAFT, it has a taste for grotesque transformations, but its setting is very different: a colossal whaling ship trapped in ice in an alternate 1900s.
Stranded aboard the Ormora, you face horrors below deck while searching for your scattered crew. Its Confront–Absorb–Survive approach mixes brutal brawler combat with scarce resources and cosmic dread. The ship itself looks like a labyrinth, and its close-quarters setting should give those encounters an uncomfortable edge.
Upcoming; release date not yet announced.

NATURE OF DREAD
Nature of Dread is a first-person action-horror title from Nature of dread Team. Players awaken in Hellhole, a classified settlement built to contain an ancient evil. Its story centres on a secret that military experiments have buried for generations.
Add this one to the ‘things that go bump in a dimly lit basement while I’m armed with only a flashlight’ pile. The creatures look truly horrific, and the game promises unsettling encounters while you uncover the truth behind the settlement. It looks well suited to anyone who prefers their horror relentless and their surroundings deeply unwelcoming.
Upcoming; release date not yet announced.
Nature of Dread takes players into the cursed settlement of Hellhole.
WASTE THE FALLEN
Waste The Fallen is a Lovecraftian extraction shooter from RoyalCrow. Players descend into ruined areas in search of loot, where grotesque creatures and rival scavengers stand between them and a successful escape. It is designed for solo play or squads of up to three.
The weapon designs have something of a David Cronenberg quality about them. From the footage shown so far, the gunplay looks as though it could use a little more punch, but the underlying idea is promising. For another grim take on the extraction formula, see Aidan’s earlier look at HUNGER.
Coming soon on Steam; release date not yet announced.

WITHIN HIS VIEW
Within His View is an observation-horror game set in an isolated Appalachian cabin in 2005. You watch seven grainy CCTV feeds, report hundreds of anomalies and try to survive until morning while a silent Wendigo stalks the room you occupy.
The developer, Darksteady. Studio, has built the premise around one cruel idea: the screen that keeps you alive is the same one that could get you killed. Watching the monitors means not looking behind you, but turning around might mean missing a dangerous change on the cameras. It is a novel idea and one that stands out as something different in the horror genre.
Free demo available; full game scheduled for 28 October 2026.
Within His View makes watching CCTV feeds a matter of survival.
WITCHFIRE
Witchfire is not a new game, but it absolutely deserves another highlight. This single-player dark-fantasy RPG shooter from The Astronauts has developers with Painkiller and Bulletstorm on their CVs, so you can expect the action to come thick and fast.
The mix of firearms, spellcasting and dangerous expeditions makes for a distinctive shooter. It comes in at the premium-priced end of indie games on Steam, but user reviews remain Very Positive. Anyone who enjoys a more aggressive kind of horror might find a lot to like here.
Available in Steam Early Access since September 2024.
Witchfire mixes dark fantasy with intense gunplay and spells.
DREADMOOR
Last but certainly not least is DREADMOOR, a dark first-person fishing adventure set in a submerged world that is still rotting from an earlier catastrophe. Fish in murky waters, upgrade your boat, craft survival equipment and fend off the monstrous things that lurk beneath the surface and along the shore.
The developers announced more than 400,000 Steam wishlists ahead of launch. It blends fishing, crafting, exploration and real-time combat, while its free demo gives you a chance to get a flavour of what is on offer before reeling this one in.
Free demo available since 6 October 2026; full game planned for Q4 2026.
