SULFUR Early Access Launches – A Fast-Paced Indie FPS Roguelike

Posted on October 28, 2024July 1, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

The wait is over—SULFUR is now available in Early Access on Steam. Developed by indie studio Perfect Random, this FPS roguelike mixes lightning-fast gunplay, dark humor, and procedural chaos into a stylized world inspired by classics like DOOM and Diablo. It’s gritty, weird, and a whole lot of fun.

What is SULFUR?

SULFUR drops players into a grim yet oddly humorous world full of monsters, caves, cursed villages, and wild gunfights. You’ll have to survive by managing your inventory, outsmarting enemies, and gunning through randomized levels that keep the experience fresh with each run. According to Perfect Random, the game is “DOOM meets Diablo”—and it shows in both its combat and progression systems.

Core Features

  • Procedurally generated maps and dungeons
  • Fast-paced tactical gunplay with dodge and dash mechanics
  • Humorous lore and dialogue woven into a grim world
  • Weapons and loot systems with RPG-like upgrades
  • Stylized visuals blending gothic horror with playful flair

Stylized Mayhem with a Twisted Smile

From eerie castles to fungal-infested forests, the game world is designed to feel both oppressive and absurd. The cartoonish art direction doesn’t dull the intensity—it enhances it. Expect mutated beasts, cryptic messages, and encounters that range from hilarious to horrifying. SULFUR is equally focused on atmosphere and pacing, making every step into a new biome feel tense and rewarding.

Roadmap & What’s Coming Next

The Early Access launch is just the beginning. Perfect Random plans to expand SULFUR significantly in the coming months:

  • **Console releases** for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2025
  • **Multiplayer co-op mode** (post-launch), allowing players to tackle dungeons together
  • More weapons, enemy types, and environments
  • Expanded lore and campaign progression

The developers are actively encouraging community feedback, with frequent updates planned during the Early Access phase.
