Going underground meant rebuilding systems across the tavern
Tavern Keeper’s Digging Deeper update arrived on October 1, bringing cellars and stairs to every level. Greenheart Games says player feedback persuaded it to add multi-level taverns, a feature the team had previously ruled out.
The fantasy management sim comes from the studio behind Game Dev Tycoon. It combines hiring, supplies and customer service with detailed furniture design. For another take on running a fantasy inn, we previously covered Tavern Manager Simulator.

From experimental build to general release
Players who followed the experimental branch have already seen this change. The studio revealed cellars on September 3, alongside requests for more building space, closer control over staff and reasons to revisit earlier taverns. October’s release brings that work to the general build.
Greenheart describes multi-level taverns as its largest architectural change so far. Systems had to account for heat, cold and fire traveling through staircases, while existing taverns also needed to support the new space. Furniture can fit beneath stairs, giving the extra floor its own layout possibilities.

More room, more ways to run the tavern
Digging Deeper also introduces the dwarven scenario Domhain, plus tavern shops, blacksmithing and desserts. Staff Duties lets players prioritize specific tasks within a role, while Guild Levels opens further progression for earlier scenario taverns.
The game remains in Steam Early Access, which began on November 3, 2025. Its single-player campaign and Freeplay modes offer adjustable difficulty, and players can send feedback through the in-game F3 option. If building around a fantasy community is your hook, our Becastled coverage offers another direction, with settlement planning and nighttime sieges.
