Vampire Hunters Review: “Imagine DOOM on a Vampire Survivors Bender”

Posted on May 28, 2025May 2, 2026 By Daniel Sarach

First Look: A Roguelite FPS That Combines Old-School Chaos and Vampire Madness

My first look at Vampire Hunters on Xbox Series X. If DOOM and Serious Sam stumbled into a roguelite bar fight, Vampire Hunters would be the aftermath. This first-person shooter lets you stack up to 14 weapons at once and wade through gothic hellscapes bursting with vampires, demons, and absurd boss fights.

Shoot, stack – and slay! Vampire Hunters combines adrenaline-pumping action with roguelite progression. Stack up to 14 weapons, create absurd builds, and mow down legions of vampires, demons, and supernatural foes.

Vampire Hunters

Release Date: October 30, 2024

Genre: Roguelite Survivors FPS

Developer/Publisher: Gamecraft Studios

Platforms:
PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 & 5, Nintendo Switch

The start feels rough — leveling up pulls you into upgrade screens every few seconds, breaking the flow. But once you push past that, the game unleashes pure chaos. Dual-wielding crossbows, shotguns, and flamethrowers while circle-strafing through steampunk arenas feels like the 90s all over again. It’s messy, over-the-top, and undeniably fun.

Visually, the low-poly, retro style blends PS1 nostalgia with budget charm. The Xbox Series X handles the action well, though the console UI feels clunky. The soundtrack rips, enemies explode with flair, and the game doesn’t take itself seriously. One boss even looks like The Rock during his Scorpion King days.

But it’s not all smooth sailing — cluttered visuals during intense fights can make it hard to track enemies. Upgrade interruptions slow down the action, and some players report late-run crashes. There’s jank here, but it’s part of the charm.

Vampire Hunters is chaotic, clumsy, and kind of brilliant. If you love the relentless mayhem of DOOM or Serious Sam and don’t mind a few rough edges, this indie shooter is absolutely worth your time.

Score: 8/10
Play it if: You want an FPS that ditches subtlety for over-the-top action and gun-stacking madness.
