Facing the Dark: A Review of Whispering Lane Horror

Posted on July 5, 2024August 26, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Atmospheric indie horror with strong ideas, an uneven story, and a respectable solo-dev punch

Whispering Lane: Horror blends the dread of Amnesia with the resource tension of Resident Evil. Two perspectives—GhostSeeker, a reckless paranormal YouTuber, and Jackson Harrowfield, a hard-nosed patrol officer—pull you through an abandoned house riddled with notes, jump scares, and tightly cut cinematics. For more context from the creator, read our interview:
Exploring the Depths of Innovation and Horror with Airem.

Early hours impress: the framing, moody lighting, and “two worlds” concept deliver proper unease. Inventory stashes, basic stealth, and a grab-bag of melee and firearms give you options beyond pure walking-sim beats.

Whispering Lane: Horror

Release Date: 19 Jun, 2024

Genre: Psychological Horror, Survival Horror, Action, Adventure

Developer/Publisher: Airem

Platforms: PC (Steam)

Where it works

  • Strong atmosphere and lighting sell the “don’t look back” vibe.
  • Dual-protagonist structure keeps beats fresh and perspectives distinct.
  • Cutscenes and small systems (item bags, note reading/voiceover, help prompts) make solo-dev scope feel bigger.

Where it stumbles

  • Story sharpness fades late—familiar tropes creep in instead of escalating mystery.
  • Enemy presence is inconsistent; demons underwhelm when they should escalate fear.
  • Pacing wobble between sneaking, searching, and combat beats.

Verdict — 7/10

As a solo-dev project, Whispering Lane is an admirable, spooky ride—more memorable for mood and structure than its late-game storytelling. Worth a look for horror fans who enjoy classic survival touches.
