Adorable Adventures PS5 Review – A Cozy Boar Adventure
A relaxing baby boar adventure on PlayStation 5 with plenty of charm, a strong outdoor feel, and a scent-based gameplay loop that is clever, even if it can become a little repetitive.
I’ll have to admit that, as a gamer who primarily plays action games and shooters, me playing Adorable Adventures is so far outside my comfort zone that I honestly questioned if reviewing it was a good idea.
I’m pleased to say that this game injects a decent dose of chill that everyone should experience in this crazy world we find ourselves in.

A Baby Boar Searching for Family
Taking on the role of Boris, a young wild boar seeking his family after they were separated and scattered into the wilderness by a huge forest fire, Boris needs to find a way to reunite with them and save Mother Boar.
This little snout sniffer explores the wilderness with a keen nose, with scent being the gameplay mechanic that helps Boris distinguish certain things, including flowers, other animals, inanimate objects, mushrooms, and all kinds of other smelly items.
All of these leave a whiffy trail for Boris to sniff out and discover, and ultimately categorize, so he can more easily identify certain smells when he is out and about.

Following the Right Whiff
The trick here is for Boris to eliminate confusing scents that can throw him off track. Creating a memory bank of scent profiles keeps our porky friend on the right path in the natural world.
This process of elimination means Boris needs to locate several kinds of the same scent to eliminate them. It is a good dynamic to build muscle memory, but in my opinion, it also gets a tad repetitive after a while.
However, removing these “distraction whiffs” means that Boris can lock onto the scent of his siblings, which he needs to do in order to locate his scattered family and his mother.

Exploration and Side Tasks
This mild gripe aside, exploration is a big part of Adorable Adventures. The big wide world that Boris explores is full of various challenges and side quests, and there is more than enough to embark on for a boar of piglet size who needs to locate his family.
The “sniffathon” aspect of scent detection plays into the core gameplay loop. Boris will need to use his sense of smell to identify certain things and accomplish mini tasks, which must be completed in order for the story to progress.
In one instance, foraging for different kinds of mushrooms for a fellow piggy had to be completed before said piggy would help in return.
Doing these side missions is what bonds this community of boars together. You scratch my bacon and I’ll scratch yours, so to speak.
A Lovely Outdoor World
Visuals are excellent, with the wilderness presented with lots of great natural detail that really makes Boris’ roaming adventure believable and tangible.
There are lots of natural shades and tones, peppered by the natural beauty of brightly coloured flora and fauna.
The entire map is set within a national park, and there is no shortage of places to explore, secrets to uncover, and interesting things to find.
Beyond that, there is a plethora of activities to get involved with, from mini races to photo challenges and helping out other animals.
It is easy to see where the appeal lies when you have cute dialled in on this kind of scale.

Where It Falls Short
Adorable Adventures does have its shortcomings. While there is a necessity to the scent elimination process as part of the core game mechanic, it can drag on and lack variety where that is concerned.
Additionally, the game map does not show where you are, and there is no key for the icons on the map either, which is a little frustrating and feels like a bit of an oversight.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Adorable Adventures delivers a nice slice of relaxing gameplay you can lose yourself in and offers up around 5–10 hours, depending on whether you want to do absolutely everything.
It is relaxing to play, if a tiny bit repetitive in places, but it absolutely oozes a cute charm that is hard to criticize too harshly. Younger players will absolutely fall in love with Boris.
What’s to Love
Baby boar adventures: plenty to discover with task and objective-based gameplay.
Cute overload: it wins the hearts-and-minds initiative and then some.
Great visuals: the game gives a strong sense of the great outdoors.
Packed with missions, side quests, and activities.
What’s Not to Love?
Some gameplay is repetitive and can get tiresome quickly.
The map is underwhelming in terms of its functionality to the player.
Relatively short if you are not the explorer type.
