A Folklore Deckbuilder Where Dinner Is Your Only Defense
British and Irish legends meet traditional cooking in an indie adventure that turns monster encounters into a race to serve the right meal.
Most monsters in games are defeated with weapons. In Hungry Horrors, you may have better luck serving them dinner. The wrong recipe, however, could leave the princess on the menu.
The folklore-inspired cooking deckbuilder from Clumsy Bear Studio has left Steam Early Access today, October 13, 2026, with its full 1.0 release. For another unusual use of food and cards, we recently featured Shroom and Gloom, a deckbuilder where players can cook the enemies they defeat.

Feed the Horrors Before They Feed on You
The story follows a spoiled princess whose kingdom is consumed by a ravenous curse. She sets out to save it with a recipe book and a sarcastic talking cat, meeting creatures from British and Irish folklore along the way.
Every card represents a traditional dish rather than an attack. Players must watch each Horror’s hunger and preferences, then build combinations around salty, sour, savory, bitter, and sweet flavors. Seasonings, cookware, potions, and artifacts can change how each encounter plays out.

What Arrives With the Full 1.0 Release?
According to the studio’s launch announcement, Hungry Horrors now includes eight biomes, 34 folklore-inspired Horrors, 62 dishes based on traditional recipes, and 13 legendary characters. Creatures include the Dullahan, Jenny Greenteeth, and Queen Mab.
There are two main ways to play: Campaign, a story-led roguelite mode with persistent progression and Vanilla or Spicy difficulty, and Banquet, a shorter, more demanding roguelike option. The studio also highlights 33 unique death animations for occasions when dinner service goes badly wrong.
A Two-Person Indie Project Reaches the Finish Line
Hungry Horrors entered Early Access on January 19, 2026. Clumsy Bear Studio describes the game as a self-funded, self-published project made by two people. On launch day, Steam shows a Very Positive user-review summary, with 98% positive reviews at the time of writing.
It’s a different approach to the usual monster-slaying formula. And for players interested in other games built around food rather than fighting, we’ve also covered Gobble Inn, an upcoming cooking-and-mining roguelike from the creators of Trash Goblin.
20% Off Until October 19
To mark the release, Hungry Horrors is 20% off on Steam until October 19, 2026. The studio also reports 28 bundles with other games, and a free demo remains available for anyone who wants to try the cooking system first.
The game is Steam Deck Verified, too. For more portable gaming options, see our Steam Deck games guide.
