PS5 DualSense vs Xbox Controller on PC: Which Is Better?

Posted on September 27, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Xbox Is Easier on PC — DualSense Does More

One is easier on Windows. The other can do more when a game properly supports it.

If you play on PC with a controller, the choice usually comes down to Microsoft’s Xbox Wireless Controller or Sony’s PS5 DualSense. Both work on Windows and Steam, but they are not quite the same experience.

I ran into that while reviewing Pulse Drive, where the PS5 controller did not feel natural to me and I ended up switching to keyboard. So for PC, which one makes more sense?

For pure plug-and-play PC use, I would take the Xbox Wireless Controller. It is usually the more predictable option across Windows, Steam, Game Pass, demos, and review builds.

The DualSense does more. Adaptive triggers, advanced haptics, gyro, and the touchpad can make supported games feel better, although support varies and Sony says PC haptics require USB. Steam helps considerably with compatibility.

Xbox vs DualSense on PC — Quick Comparison

Feature Xbox DualSense
PC compatibility More predictable Very good, especially on Steam
Battery Replaceable AA Built-in rechargeable
Adaptive triggers / haptics No Supported games
Gyro / touchpad No Yes
Stick layout Offset Symmetrical

Which One Would I Buy?

If I were buying one controller only for PC, I would choose the Xbox Wireless Controller. If you already own a DualSense, keep using it — there is no reason to replace it unless compatibility becomes a problem.

For reviewing games, I would keep both: Xbox as the baseline and DualSense when a game advertises PlayStation-specific features.
