Rewriting History With Red Rampant an Epic Tale of Scottish Valor and Mystical Twists

Posted on September 25, 2024May 2, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

“Red Rampant,” developed by Eclectic Synthesis, is a unique action-adventure game that plunges players into the turbulent times of the Scottish Wars of Independence. Unlike any other game in the genre, it offers players the chance to literally change the course of history using a groundbreaking gameplay mechanic.

Game Overview

Set during the fierce and desperate struggles under Robert the Bruce’s command, “Red Rampant” does more than recount history—it invites players to alter it. The game introduces a novel feature, the ‘Rewind Drug,’ provided by a mystical figure known as The Alchemist. This allows players to rewind their actions and use their foreknowledge to influence outcomes, turning defeats into victories and exploring various what-if scenarios.

As players traverse the historically rich yet mythologically wrapped landscapes of Scotland, they engage in both real and mythic encounters. From guerrilla skirmishes against England’s formidable forces to navigating the political undercurrents threatening to undermine Bruce’s rule, every decision can reshape the narrative.

Founded by Jake McCullagh and Chris Walker, the company aims to grow in tandem with the game’s expanding universe, which will evolve from a small highland village to the grandeur of medieval Scottish battles.

Early Access and Beyond

Having launched in early access, “Red Rampant” is gearing up for a significant update that promises to enhance visual fidelity and gameplay mechanics. This ‘full release’ marks only the beginning of an episodic adventure designed to unfold over years, paralleling the company’s growth and ambitions. The game’s early access phase has been pivotal, gathering invaluable player feedback that has already begun shaping the next development cycle.

Jake McCullagh provided an in-depth look at the philosophy behind the game’s creation:
“Our vision for ‘Red Rampant’ was to fill a void in the gaming industry by bringing Scottish medieval history into the mainstream gaming world. This game is the first chapter of what we envision as a long-term narrative that grows with our company. We’ve structured our releases episodically to manage the scope and scale appropriately, ensuring that each phase introduces

Community Insights:

Early Impressions by The Movie Hero

As ‘Red Rampant’ rolls out in its early access phase, it’s already drawing attention from various corners of the gaming community. The Movie Hero, known for his keen observations on game development, has shared some initial thoughts that might interest potential players.

“The human and NPC animations need some refinement, which is understandable given its early access status,” he notes, pointing out an area ripe for improvement. However, he quickly adds, “The game world itself looks impressive, which is a big draw for this genre.”

Dialogue options stand out as a particularly strong feature, according to The Movie Hero. “There’s a plethora of dialogue choices, which I believe fans of narrative-driven games will really appreciate.” This aspect seems to enhance the game’s replayability, promising varied experiences with each playthrough.

He concludes with an optimistic outlook: “I’m excited to see how this game develops. The narrative has been engaging so far, and with the game’s promise of expanding choices, it’s bound to evolve into a richer experience.”
