Bubblebird Studio’s upcoming beachside builder turns childhood sandcastle-making into a relaxed sandbox full of charm, nostalgia, and gentle physics-driven creativity.
In much the same way that ShipShaper and Outside the Blocks tap into that easygoing creative energy, Sandcastle looks set to give players another chilled space to tinker, experiment, and build at their own pace. It is a brilliant concept that reaches for something instantly relatable and wonderfully nostalgic: childhood summers spent on a sun-drenched beach, shaping towers, moats, and walls out of wet sand for the sheer joy of it.

A fortified island build in Sandcastle, complete with walls, towers, flags, and beach props.
Developed and published by Bubblebird Studio, the team behind Trackline Express and TurboSquad, Sandcastle gives players a range of tools to gather wet sand, shape towering walls, carve intricate battlements, and engineer elaborate moats designed to withstand or redirect the incoming tide. Players can also find hidden objects and collect starfishes to unlock different beach layouts, giving the game a little extra sense of progression without losing its laid-back identity.
A clever idea built around sand and water physics
What makes Sandcastle stand out is the way it leans into a proper water and sand physics system. Structures compact, crumble, and hold their form depending on moisture and pressure, while waves flow, pool, and gently erode whatever you build just as they would on a real shoreline. That adds a tactile, playful layer to the experience, making this feel like more than just a cosy builder with a fresh coat of paint.

Sandcastle’s island layout highlights the game’s playful mix of building, waterways, and beachside shaping tools.
It is also the kind of idea that should land well with players who simply want to build and experiment in their own time, without pressure, timers, or heavy objectives getting in the way. Sometimes the strongest concepts are the simplest ones, and there is something quietly smart about turning a familiar childhood pastime into a full sandbox game built around texture, atmosphere, and freeform creativity.
The game is currently set to launch with nine different beach layouts, including locations such as atolls, lagoons, sand barriers, and deltas. That already feels like a strong foundation for a game like this, and while anything beyond that remains speculative, the concept certainly feels like one that could grow nicely over time if players take to it.
