Starruptures Environmental Showcase a Glimpse Into the Real and the Unreal

Posted on July 25, 2024June 20, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

From Earth to the Stars: Iceland’s Harsh Beauty as Alien Inspiration

Creepy Jar, the Polish studio behind the acclaimed Green Hell, has unveiled new insights into the development of their upcoming sci-fi survival game, StarRupture. This Unreal Engine 5-powered title doesn’t just imagine a new world—it’s deeply influenced by our own.

Immersion Through Real Environments

The team at Creepy Jar ventured into Iceland’s surreal and primeval landscapes to research for the game’s biome design. Volcanoes, lava fields, geysers, and frigid wastelands serve as the basis for the alien planet players will explore. The goal? To convey a sense of danger and resilience inspired by Earth’s rawest elements.

Gameplay Built Around Cataclysm and Survival

In StarRupture, players must build and manage bases while preparing for cyclic cataclysms caused by a volatile nearby star. This death-rebirth loop mirrors the ecological violence and beauty of Iceland’s environment, enhancing both narrative and gameplay immersion.

Unreal Engine 5 Powers the World

The visual fidelity of the game owes much to Unreal Engine 5, which allows for dynamic lighting, volumetric fog, and destructible environments. Expect dramatic weather shifts, hazardous biomes, and breathtaking alien vistas, all grounded in real geology and biology.

Creepy Jar’s Signature Approach: Realism in the Fantastic

As with their previous survival projects, Creepy Jar remains focused on realism. Instead of creating fantasy purely from imagination, they embed familiar, tangible elements into the alien—making StarRupture more relatable and impactful for players.
