Steam Next Fest Demo of the Day: Salt & Soul Turns a Giant Kitchen Into a Fragile Adventure

Posted on June 18, 2026June 28, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A tiny soul in a giant kitchen, with cooking that actually sounds like cooking

Salt & Soul: Pocket Chef’s Adventure is our Steam Next Fest Demo of the Day, turning a kitchen into a fragile platforming adventure about food, memory, and care.

Salt & Soul: Pocket Chef’s Adventure caught my attention for more than its cute idea. You play as a fragile porcelain salt shaker in a colossal kitchen, guided by your grandmother’s spirit while trying to retrieve ingredients and bring lost recipes back to life.

With a background in both the kitchen and service side of food, I notice when a game treats cooking as more than decoration. Timing, pressure, care, and small details matter. That is why this Steam Next Fest demo stood out.

A small character in a kitchen that feels huge

The strongest hook is scale. A normal kitchen becomes a towering place full of shelves, counters, appliances, food, and danger. You are not a hero with armor or a sword. You are porcelain. A fall from the counter can mean shattering, which makes movement feel careful instead of casual.

A normal kitchen becomes a huge and dangerous world when you are made of porcelain.

That simple choice gives the demo a strong identity. Platforming is not just about reaching the next ledge. It is about surviving the space, carrying ingredients safely, and respecting the environment around you.

Cooking as timing, pressure, and care

The cooking side is what makes Salt & Soul: Pocket Chef’s Adventure more interesting than a standard cute platformer. The demo points toward manual cooking, where timing, heat, stirring, seasoning, and care all matter.

The kitchen’s lighting shifts the mood from cozy to uneasy, giving the small-scale adventure more atmosphere.

That matters. Cooking is not only putting items together. It is rhythm, patience, and knowing when something needs attention. For a game about memory and family recipes, that is a much stronger angle than using food as background decoration.

Who should try the demo?

Salt & Soul: Pocket Chef’s Adventure looks like a good pick for players who enjoy atmospheric platformers, small handcrafted games, cooking mechanics, and emotional storytelling. It has a cozy idea, but the porcelain fragility gives it tension too.

This is our Steam Next Fest Demo of the Day because it has a clean concept: a tiny soul, a giant kitchen, family memory, and cooking mechanics that seem to understand why food can mean something.
