Posted on June 17, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

A new digital showcase is putting retro gaming in the spotlight

Pixel Arcadia has been announced as a new digital showcase dedicated to retro games, classic gaming culture, preservation, and modern projects inspired by gaming’s past.

The debut broadcast is scheduled for 24 August 2026, airing at 20:00 CEST / 19:00 BST / 14:00 ET / 11:00 PT. The showcase is being positioned ahead of gamescom 2026 and aims to give retro games, retro-inspired releases, remasters, revivals, and preservation-focused projects a dedicated stage.

Organised by Pixel Helix, Pixel Arcadia is described as a forward-looking showcase for the retro gaming space. The event is expected to include new announcements, classic revivals, modern retro-inspired titles, contemporary hardware made for classic play, and developer insight around the projects being shown.

More than a trailer reel

Rather than focusing only on rapid-fire trailers, Pixel Arcadia is being presented as a more editorial showcase, with added context, commentary, and space for the stories behind the games. That gives the event a different angle from many larger summer presentations, especially for fans who follow preservation, older platforms, arcade-inspired design, and modern games built around classic genres.

Al Hibberd, CEO of Pixel Helix and organiser of Pixel Arcadia.

Al Hibberd, CEO of Pixel Helix, is one of the organisers behind Pixel Arcadia.

“Pixel Arcadia is a dedicated space for retro games fans, one that celebrates this important part of the industry by honouring the trailblazers of gaming past and looking ahead to evolutions of iconic franchises. By partnering with incredible sponsors who share our vision, we are able to support the retro space with true editorial value, allowing developers to keep their resources for making incredible games and connecting them directly with their core audience. In Pixel Arcadia every project shown gets the time, respect and storytelling it deserves.” – Al Hibberd, CEO of Pixel Helix

The retro space has grown far beyond nostalgia. Remasters, re-releases, spiritual successors, new games built for older hardware, modern handhelds, and officially licensed classic-style technology have all helped keep older gaming traditions alive while also bringing them to new audiences.

Further details about broadcasting platforms, participating developers, and exclusive reveals are expected to be shared closer to the showcase.
