Aztecs: The Last Sun – Classic City Building with a New Twist

Posted on March 18, 2025June 24, 2025 By Ronny Fiksdahl

Oberhaching, Germany – March 18, 2025 – Independent Polish studio Play2Chill is teaming up with renowned German publisher Toplitz Productions to breathe new life into one of gaming’s most beloved genres. Their upcoming title, Aztecs: The Last Sun, promises to revive the spirit of isometric city-builders while infusing it with fresh systems, historical themes, and complex societal dynamics.

Construct the Legacy of Tenochtitlan

Set in the heart of Mesoamerica, Aztecs: The Last Sun invites players to take the reins of a rising civilization and lead the construction of Tenochtitlan, the epicenter of the Aztec world. As the appointed leader, you’ll guide your people through the trials of city planning, spiritual devotion, and military growth, all while forging your path in the annals of history.

Three Pillars of Aztec Power

The gameplay is built around three essential elements:

  • Economic Strategy: Manage resources wisely, expand your city’s infrastructure, and ensure the prosperity of your people.
  • Military Might: Defend your city and conquer new territories with a well-trained army.
  • Religious Influence: Maintain favor with the gods through rituals and sacrifices to gain spiritual strength and secure cultural dominance.

From the Publisher’s Perspective

Stefan Berger, Head of Business Development and Sales at Toplitz Productions, shared his excitement about the collaboration:

“With the classic city builder celebrating a triumphant comeback, we couldn’t be happier to cooperate with Play2Chill on Aztecs. They stay true to the gameplay roots of the genre but inject modern accessibility without sacrificing depth and challenge. Their vision for the game, combined with their craftsmanship, truly delivers, and we are happy to share the journey with them.”
