False Hero Launches on Steam After Six Years of Solo Development

Solo-developed dark fantasy Soulslike False Hero is now available on Steam after more than six years of development.

False Hero launched on September 22, 2026 for Windows PC. Developed by Torchlight Games and published by Ytopia, the action RPG is built around stealing attacks from defeated enemies and chaining those abilities into your own combat sequences.

A surreal boss encounter turns the arena into a fight against a giant eye-like creature.

Combat is built around stolen attacks

Instead of leaning heavily on gear management or grinding, False Hero puts the focus on learning enemy moves and using them yourself. Every enemy attack can become another option in the player’s combat kit, with different stolen skills combined into custom combos.

That system sits alongside difficult boss fights, swordplay and powers tied to the gods of the game’s world. The developer describes the project as a faster, more streamlined take on the Soulslike formula, with an emphasis on combat mastery and atmosphere.

False Hero leans into strange and unsettling enemy designs throughout its dark fantasy combat.

A corrupted land of gods

The story takes place in Wisdom, a dying mountaintop kingdom where the gods of Life are losing their power and Death is spreading across the land. Players control the remains of a scholar prophesied to confront an eldritch threat, with choices that can push the story toward saving the gods or becoming an apostle of Death.

The world mixes interconnected areas, puzzles and surreal environments with the game’s combat encounters.

There was already some positive player feedback before launch. At the time of writing, the free False Hero demo holds a 94% positive rating from 283 Steam user reviews.

False Hero is available now on Steam. The publisher lists the game at $19.99, with regional pricing varying by market.
