FUR Squadron Phoenix Shows Why Indie Rail Shooters Still Matter | GOTW

Posted on April 12, 2026May 2, 2026 By Ronny Fiksdahl

FUR Squadron Phoenix is our Game of the Week #49

At Fix Gaming Channel, Game of the Week is not always about scale, budget, or the loudest release on the calendar. Sometimes it is about spotlighting a game that knows exactly what it wants to be and executes on that with style, confidence, and clarity. FUR Squadron Phoenix is one of those games, and that is a big part of why it stands out.

Following our previous Game of the Week pick, Little Devil, this week we head into space with a colourful indie shooter from Raptor Claw that immediately understands its strengths. It blends fast arcade action, bright sci-fi style, and roguelite progression into something that feels both familiar and fresh, without leaning too hard on nostalgia alone.

Release Date: February 18, 2026

Genre: On-rails space shooter, Action, Roguelite

Developer / Publisher: Raptor Claw

Platforms: Steam, Nintendo Switch

Official Website: FUR Squadron Phoenix

An indie shooter that understands momentum

What stands out quickly in FUR Squadron Phoenix is how cleanly it presents itself. It does not feel overloaded with noise or distracted by ideas that do not belong. It understands the simple thrill of on-rails shooting and builds around that with confidence. You are here to fly, react, fire, and survive, and the game wastes very little time getting to the point.

That alone would already make it appealing, but it also adds enough progression to avoid feeling like a simple throwback. Upgradeable ships, unlockable weapons, and a roguelite campaign structure give it more replay value and help it feel like a modern game rather than a retro imitation. That balance matters. It gives the action more staying power while keeping the old-school arcade energy intact.

Why this is our Game of the Week #49

This is our Game of the Week because FUR Squadron Phoenix does something many games struggle to do. It finds a strong identity early and sticks to it. It is colourful, readable, energetic, and mechanically focused. It does not need to overcomplicate itself to make an impression. Instead, it trusts its pace, its action, and its style, and that confidence comes through from the start.

Large-scale space battles add energy and spectacle to FUR Squadron Phoenix’s on-rails combat.

It also represents the kind of indie release that can easily slip past people if they only focus on the biggest launch schedule. That is exactly the sort of game we want to highlight. There is real value in projects that are polished, entertaining, and made with a clear sense of purpose, even when they are not backed by a huge budget or a giant marketing machine.

UR Squadron Phoenix earns attention through its strong arcade flow, vibrant presentation, and the feeling that it was built by people who genuinely understand why this style of shooter still matters.

More than just fast shooting

Another reason the game works is that it is not relying only on speed and spectacle. The crew interactions and dialogue help give the experience more personality, and that extra layer matters. It makes the journey feel more alive and gives players something to connect with beyond just chasing scores and clearing enemy waves.

Dialogue sequences help give FUR Squadron Phoenix more personality beyond its fast-paced shooting.

That combination of pace, personality, and visual flair is what helps FUR Squadron Phoenix stand apart. It is not trying to reinvent the genre from the ground up, but it does not need to. Sometimes the best thing a game can do is understand its lane, execute it well, and remind people why that lane was exciting in the first place.

If you enjoy arcade-driven space shooters and indie games with a clear point of view, FUR Squadron Phoenix is well worth your time. That is why it is our Game of the Week #49.
