A major reset for Hasbro’s video game plans
Hasbro has cancelled several video games scheduled for 2028 and beyond, recording a $56 million non-cash write-down connected to the affected projects.
The company confirmed the cancellations in its second-quarter 2026 financial results. The $56 million impairment covers previously capitalized development costs and does not represent a new $56 million cash payment.
Hasbro did not reveal which games were cancelled. CEO Chris Cocks said the company is removing projects in which it has less confidence and concentrating investment on franchises, platforms, and partnerships with stronger potential.
The move follows a wider period of restructuring across the games industry. Enginefall was recently delayed to 2027 alongside layoffs at Red Rover Interactive, while studio closures and reduced investment have continued across the industry.

Fewer Projects and Lower Digital Spending
Hasbro expects 2026 to be its peak year for digital investment. The company plans to reduce total digital spending by at least 25% annually by 2028 while focusing more heavily on trading card games, role-playing games, owned platforms, and selected partnerships.
The cancellations do not signal a complete withdrawal from video games. Hasbro continues to build around properties and platforms including Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering Arena, and D&D Beyond.
The write-down also arrived during a strong quarter for the company. Total revenue increased by 16%, while revenue from Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming rose by 27% compared with the same period last year.
